Sprint’s HTC Touch Pro2 officially launching on September 8th, $349.99

General

We’re willing to forgive the horrible quality on these press mock ups of Sprint’s HTC Touch Pro2 because, well, we’re just way too happy to see this sucker get official to care. Are you a current or prospective Sprint subscriber? Do you have $350 dollars burning a hole in your pocket and a hankering for one of the sexiest Windows Mobile phones on earth? Rest easy friends, as Sprint has just officially announced the HTC Touch Pro2. That’s right Sprint fans, the Pro2′s giant tilting 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display, landscape QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and TouchFLO 3D UI can soon be yours. Sprint’s Touch Pro2 will launch next Tuesday, September 8th, for $349.99 on a 2-year contract after a $100 mail-in rebate. Sure the early adopter tax is higher than usual but you know what they say — you have to pay to play.

JB, sounds like trap money. If it is trap money you shouldn’t have late bills

    Why the $350 is justified:
    - targets business pros (remember Econ 101 and price sensitivity?)
    - Early adopter tax
    - Lower production volume for CDMA versions
    - WinMo license fees (?)
    - It’s the best of its kind

    Why it’s not:
    - Discount for 2-yr contract out of line. Full price similar to BB’s, G1 & “G2″ (myTouch), and iPhone yet subsidized rate (2-yr contract) is 50-75% higher, with exception of BB Bold, which began at $400 and is still $300 almost a year later.
    - No learning curve savings. Predecessor has same h/w & OS specs but sold for $50 less (2-yr). The iPhone hits same price points, but new models have upgraded specs.

And why does the TP2 get the 3.2 cam when the Diamond2 gets the 5.0? Business folks want crappier pics when we spend more?

Let’s hope Amazon, Best Buy, and others offer this for $150 (or less!) as some retailers did for TMO’s version.

Oh, and “Jerome Brown” — that idiot — sucks.

To clarify, I meant the iPhone hits ITS OWN same price points, not TP2′s.

    “Stormtrooper Said:
    People really want windows mobile?”

Just the highest demographics do. And more and more every month.

    Are you serious?
    DUDE go fly a kite!!!!!!!!

  • Val

“Dude”, the TP2 is being drooled over by the high end buyers. If you need power you need WM.

WM does sell more each month. If you go by makret share alone than Symbian kills WEBOS, Apple, WM and BB!

100 million WM devices have been sold, and the last 12 months were stronger than the prior 123 months.

Of course if you are a retard bound on slamming WM, then that is news to you. :)

  • bcparker

i got the palm pre, but if all the big brother kind of stuff is true, i will be switching back to the TP2…

  • Stupid People

To the Jerome Brown poster…You’re an idiot and its obvious you’re an ignorant white dude. Cut the bullshit.

So with todays announcement about the TP2 coming out on VZW for $199, how justified is the $350 Sprint wants?

  • IwantToKnow

i was thinking about that too why put 450 upfront when i can just put 300 up front and get the better 3g coverage looks like i might be heading back to verizon i have the tp2 for tmo and the freaking service sucks good thing i only paid 150 for it but still in my 30 day trial period to return the service although i was really looking foward to that 129 unlimited web and text family plan :( and on top of that my job gives me 15% off my monthly bill and discount of web orders if i go with sprint

  • Don Louie Cantone

If you want to get this on vzw on a fam plan it would be way more than the Everything Data Share plan, let alone the $50 for text and data on individual plans. That doesn’t even account for nav, in 3 months you will have paid the supposed discount that vzw is giving, on the phone, after that you’re just paying for the privilege to be on “The Network”

I don’t understand the availability date: all the gadget websites say Sept 8th. My Sprint in-store rep says they will not get them in store for another month. I only have a few days left on my 30 day trial: I know I can get a Tour or something, then trade again in another 30, but that’s a lot of work.

HA. Sprint launches the TP2 this morning for $349.99, meanwhile the Touch Pro is still listed on their site for $299.99 (AFTER REBATES). So, they’re charging $100 more for the Touch Pro, compared to what the TP2 will be available for through Verizon in 72 hours.

    Dumbest company EVER.

  • WM Lover

Just ordered mine this morning! Gonna be awesome! Don’t even try calling your local store yet. They don’t know anything about it. Just call telesales. They will ship it the next day and maybe if you sweet talk them, then overnight!

ckeegan, vzw has been giving away cheap phones for a long while now so they can make it up on plans and add ons for the duration of a contract and now that they no longer offer an unlimited data pack w/o a bundle it’s even more so

  • ckeegan

@ Don: First of all, Verizon has not been giving away cheap phones for a long while. In fact, this will be one of the first cases of Verizon beating Sprint on phone price since I can remember. The only other I can think of is the Ozone, which is superior and cheaper to Sprint’s Snap anyway.

I might pay a little more for Verizon service compared to Sprint, but not much. Sure, on paper it looks like more, but in reality it isn’t. I use about 2,100 minutes per month, but I’m able to stay within limits (due to in-network) on the 900 minute plan, and I make almost NO calls during off-peak times. I switch to Sprint and automatically have to go to the unlimited plan, since those 1,200 remaining minutes won’t be in-network on Sprint.

So, it comes down to paying about $15 more per month to be with the highest rated carrier versus the lowest rated carrier. I think I’ll spend the extra $15.
