Nokia’s 5230; cheap and smart

As Nokia World draws closer, our favorite Finnish phone maker has just taken the wraps off one of several new handsets set to drop in the near future. Yet another full touchscreen device that looks exactly like the 5800, the 5230′s features include a 3.2-inch 360×640 display, 2 megapixel camera, aGPS, 70MB of internal memory and feature three flavors of dual-band 3.6Mbps UMTS/HSDPA (850/1900, 850/2100 and 900/2100). So what could possibly be interesting about this handset, you’re wondering? The price: the 5230 is set to ship in Q4 for €149 ($213 USD) and will be available in red, pink, blue, yellow, silver and dark silver.     nokia is really pushing s60 5th edition to the masses. at a $213 price almost anybody could pick one up (even kids) and be all touchy about it too. lol.

    notice how at the end of her first swipe throught webpage and at the beginning of the second the phone doens’t pick up her movements. That’s the kind of shit that makes using a cheap touchscreen phone painfully annoying.

    I know it might seem like small potatoes but it gets old fast.

    Sure would be nice if a global player like Nokia would figure out that quad band world radios are probably worth the incremental cost and that combined with the lower cost of supporting fewer part numbers ends up being a wash financially.

    Sure would be nice to have data/connectivity in Europe, Asia and the US just like my HTC Kaiser. The InnoPath Japan team was not happy with me when I spec’ed the wrong flavor of E71 for use in Tokyo. Oooops!

    The E71 has a quad-band GSM/EDGE radio, supporting the same frequencies as the Kaiser. They don’t have a quad-band 3G radio, however, because that’s expensive. In fact, your Kaiser only has tri-band 3G. While tri-band on the E71 would be nice, I’m not too hurt by it.
