AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold upgrade rolling out now

Happy Tuesday, BlackBerry fans — it looks like AT&T has a little present for you this morning. We’re getting a bunch of emails from readers letting us know that AT&T’s upgraded Bold OS is alive and ready to rock, just like we told you it would be. For those of you who were too lazy to have visual voicemail set up early — or just too busy to deal with customer service — things just got a whole lot easier for you. So what are you waiting for? Let us know if the upgrade is available for you yet and if so, let us know how it goes in the comments section.

UPDATE: As we should have mentioned initially, once you’ve upgraded you can activate the visual voicemail option yourself from within the Manage My Account section on the AT&T site. One of our readers, Tarun, was kind enough to send in a screenshot, which is found after the break.

    I have the BOLD with Rogers…..can I still upgrade using the AT & T version ? Please advise. thanks

    Blackberry KB article 17503 says visual voicemail provisioning happens via a special SMS message. (I never saw an SMS message but my coworker who added the feature did — however he had no upgraded his OS yet so perhaps that’s why) I was getting “feature not provisioned” even though I had already set up my mailbox with greeting and password. I had to call AT&T to get them to remove and re-add the feature, then after 10 min or so visual voicemail started working. That’s an hour of my life I’ll never get back. FYI — AT&T tols me they recommend upgrading software first then calling to add the feature.

    I just called Cust Service…waited a whole 2 minutes and they setup VVM no problem…entire call was 5 minutes. There is no SMS message..the rep just provisioned it for me.

    You may also have to log into your account online and go under Manage Features (or call a customer care rep or go to a store, whatever is easiest for you) and enable Visual Voicemail (it’s at the bottom of the features list on your online account). There’s no fee for it, but just so you know, there ARE standard data fees incurred with each message received, so please be sure you have unlimited data/messaging before you use Visual Voicemail.

    Update.

    Got it downloaded. Haven’t gone thru the machinations of setting up Visual Voicemail on account of I’m too lazy and my youmail visual voicemail works beyond great.

    But here’s the really good news: before the update my Bold was so, so buggy. And now? It’s faster than ever. All the operations are seamless and hourglass free!!

    I’d like to thank AT&T, and/or RIM, and God for this miracle.

    I had to delete a bunch of programs and the videos that came with the bold before the update would run. Now I have 40 MB apps memory- was never above 24 before! Still leaks slowly though.
