Samsung Omnia II screenshots emerge; Windows Mobile 6.5 meets TouchWiz 2.0

General

While the US is still waiting on official word from Samsung, a carrier or anyone else in terms of when the Omnia II might touch down in the US, ai.rs blog has managed to score a whole host of screenshots from the sexy new handset. Why are we so interested in screenshots — how does TouchWiz 2.0 sitting on top of Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro sound? It appears as though Samsung has done a bang up job in covering much of the UI with touchy wizzy goodness, and ai.rs reveals a whole slew of screens — 37 in total. Truth be told, it doesn’t look bad at all. Hit the jump for a giant version of the image above along with a few more caps, and hit the read link for the rest. Mmm, UI band aids.

Or on vzw site!? No qwerty, no thank you. Had the 1st one. Didn’t like it…

Looks like a jumbled mess. Just like the first Omnia. One of the most confusing and poorly designed UI I ever tried.

They should have left 6.5 naked….it looks damn better with its Zune style lists etc.

None of this matters. The first thing you do is disable Touchwiz and install a real skin, like SPM MobileShell 3, or even the free iFonz. Then, not only is the skin 1000 times more useable, but overall performance is better.

ok please explain cos I don’t see anything about wm6.5 still looks like the same touch wiz 2.0 on wm6.1. Any video to see the difference in speed?

Windows Mobile looks about the same as it did eight years ago. It’s amazing how much M$ has neglected the UI. Pretty much anything is an improvement as long as you don’t lose functionality.

It supposed to be in Verizon stores by Aug 23th, what happened then?

  • mr. anderson

thats because this is most likely windows mobile 6.1, and even if it was 6.5 it looks EXACTLY like tw2.0 on wm6.1. bgr is again trying to make new news out of something old, many sites have had a full review of the omnia2 up for a while now. for example:

Bgr is hittin da pipe. This is a disaster. Your gonna use that pile of widget crap on a 3″ screen? Nope. Total mess.

  • tedkord

    3.7″

  • Nimrod

Eh, the only thing that looks usable is the messaging screen. Everything else is just a cluster of bright colors.

  • dick

Hey assholes. The only reason the first pic looks cluttered is because they dragged all the widgets on top of each other. If you want screen space, don’t use the widgets. dumb fucks.

  • Robert

Where the fuck is the phone I camped out at bestbuy all night, ditch my girlfriend, all for the phantom omnia2

  • Valiantineus

    @ dick:

    hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

    whew! Thanks for that.

I’m just interested that they finally got a good way of switching between running tasks. The Aero style frills of flipping through screen-shots of the running programs is really more than is needed and just icing on the cake.

I was getting sick of having to back out to the home page to access the task manager in a dropdown.

  • chip

    widgets? WTF!? FAIL!!!!

  • BachinPhx

That is exactly what I was thinking. Disable the TouchWiz and just get down to the basics.
