Microsoft Zune HD now available for pre-order

Retail

As if anyone had doubts surrounding the legitimacy of yesterday’s Zune HD leak, today Microsoft confirmed availability for September 15th and let it be known that pre-orders for the black 16GB and platinum 32GB models are now being filled through Zune.net, Microsoft, Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. In case you’re waiting on the other five colors that the Tegra-powered portable will be available in at launch, you’ll just have to sit tight for now. Don’t cry though — maybe we can cheer you up by letting you know that pricing is now 100 percent confirmed: $219.99 for the 16GB model and $289.99 for the 32GB model. We’ll take six of each, thank you.

    will this thing play divx?

How’s about 64GB and the ability to place phone calls? How the hell can Microsoft not be trying to create a phone?

Does the Zune HD have a built in speaker? Will it play DIVX?

“How the hell can Microsoft not be trying to create a phone?”

    Why would they?

When it comes to cellular, there is a HUGE difference between MS and Apple.

Apple has a mobile OS that is only avaible on one specific device.

MS has a mobile OS that is available on various devices by various manufacturers.

I think it’s naive to believe that every single product has to go toe-to-toe with each other. If Apple has the iPhone, then MS MUST make a competing device? Why? That logic is senseless.
How come no one ever says Apple MUST or SHOULD make a gaming console? MS has one, so by the same logic, Apple should make one too. Just because…. well, because its Apple and they are supposed to compete with every single thing MS does and vice versa? Stupid.

I think MS is doing right w/ the Zune… they know, we all know, no one is going to dethrone Apple from the PMP market. If MS wants the Zune to succeed, they have to find a different approach and not get up in Apple’s face. To try to develop their own handset and compete w/ iPhone is suicide.

“Does the Zune HD have a built in speaker?”
No one has said so far. The ipod Touch does.

    “Will it play DIVX?”
With the current Zunes and ipods, no. Though I’ve read Zunes can be hacked to play. Otherwise, you gotta convert the file.

I’m not saying they have to have a phone just to compete with apple. I really like the looks of this and want one but I don’t want to pack two things around with me all the time (phone and zune). If it was a phone it’d get the hell used out of it; otherwise I fear it sitting on my desk collecting dust. Just saying.

    @Retardo Montabahn,
One of the most levelheaded comments I have seen in a while.

Dude, their called Mactards! So much funnier!

I just pre-ordered one off Amazon. Free shipping and no tax at Amazon makes it the best place to get it in my opinion if you are thinking about pre-ordering one.
