T-Mobile's HTC Touch Pro2 available now

Retail

Yes, indeed, the day so many of you have been patiently waiting for has arrived as T-Mobile’s HTC Touch Pro2 is now on sale. Arguably the greatest Windows Mobile handset to ever grace this great green earth, the Touch Pro2 features a 3.6-inch WVGA restive touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, Wi-Fi, GPS, 512MB ROM/288MB RAM, microSDHC support and a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor — all working to make this Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone with TouchFLO 3D the gem that it is. The only problem as we see it is the 2-year price tag that could make even a hardened extortionist weep: $349.99. Then again, perhaps we’re being too hard on T-Mobile’s pricing; there are worse things you could be spending your hard earned money on, right?

I hate this phone as well as the price. I got it today and it’s going back tomorrow. Too large a screen to effectively use as a one-handed device. So heavy that if you do use it for a long call, your hand hurts. AMAZING speakerphone. AMAZING! But oooohhh the rest of it is for the return bin.

Try to use it for listening to music and you’ll need to add that humungo dongle converter that they may as well call a mini-pro because it is a brick of a thing. I cursed, asking why not just also send rabbit ears antenna and a deisel-powered battery. What moronic design!

Look, I’ve used almost nothing but HTC devices for many years now and love them.

    I.hate.this.phone.

And it LAGS! Can you believe it? The finger does not always register on the screen in TouchFlo. Your finger will be like a kid’s nose on a bakery window, pressed and vapory against the glass hoping against hope to connect . . . I’ve been speechless with amazement at how many awful issues there are for a phone with this price.

That ball-in-a-maze game. Play it if you don’t believe me. Tell me if you don’t see that ball skip-stutter its way around. Like someone left pretzel crumbs on the virtual board of this game.

I will miss the speaker. Like the crazy girlfriend who had that one killer smile. You know you’ve got to move on, but you’ll always wonder if you could have made it work, just for that one quality you will always miss.

. . . even now knowing that it would be the death of you if you stayed.

    Good-bye, Pro2.

    @ Valiantineus:

Ok…. You got a little confused which is very easy to do!! He said that all the phones( Touch Pr0 2, BlackBerry Tour, etc.) Have completed testing an their just sitting in storage right now collecting dust. My friend is usually always correct when it comes to these matters; however he DID say they should be out in time for the Holidays but, they could be released now, its just that USCC wants the SPOTLIGHT when the release them.

wow technics42… who put the kyocera in your cornflakes? with smartphones accounting for only about 20% of cellphone sales, i highly doubt that an overpriced phone that runs the worst smartphone operating system on the planet will drive away that many U.S. Cellular customers. if the iPhone hasn’t driven uscc out of business, then i highly doubt this will have an impact.

I’ll keep my pocket sized Touch Pro with the newer cpu, dpad, and camera flash.
Whenever WM7 is released, then I’ll upgrade.

i am starting to feel the same way, it’s like u read my mind! at this point i think i’m gonna jump over the mt3g n hope i don’t pull out my hair. being a mac os x guy, i despise looking at the winDOOZE ui! grr!!

  • Valiantineus

    @ technics42:

Oh, ok, gotcha. Well, like I said, they won’t be the first company to schedule launch dates to get under the spotlight. I know it is frustrating, but USCC has to get milk the marketing as much as they can with what they have. I mean, it’s not like we get new phones that people actually care about very often.

    @ Valiantineus:

I agree. I’m a sprint user that just changed from longtime Treo (Palm OS, then WinMo) use to a BB Tour and I’m considering returning the Tour to try the TP2 when it comes out. stopped into T-Mobile today to try the TP2 (I was the only one even near it for 20 mins).
It was terrible in responsiveness – granted an instore model, but still, that was an awful experience with a fully functional phone. I had just been to the Sprint store around the corner to inquire about my broadband card and I tried an active TreoPro, which was impressive, though I still prefer my Treo800w over almost any of these. Probably returning my Tour tomorrow to go back to the 800w. Hopefully the Sprint version of TouchPro2 is better than the T-Mobile one today. From your comments, Chris, doesn’t sound like it’s just the demo model.

Do it. I’m planning on doing the same. Once the first Android phone hits AT&T, I’m out…after 11 years. Sucks to be an Omnipoin..I mean VoiceStrea…I mean TMo customer.

Looks like they’ll NEVER learn. They’ll never learn that to keep customers, they need to do something about the price of the handsets. You can’t continue to be LCD ( Least Common Denominator ) carrier, and expect to be taken seriously when it comes to hardware. So long TMo…

how did you get that price

  • WhatzinyourphonE

Wow. I hate them rite now. Why the hell did they price it so dam high. I stuck between getting another replacement wing, or buying the TP2. The tp2 is just too dang exspensive! Its not really worth 350 until it ships with 6.5 installed! Not the dead ass old ass terrible 6.1. Tmo are just awful!

Yea, the first guy (Chris Cronin), you need calm down, realize that this phone is wonderful and this is obviously not the HTC for you hun. And for all of you who say, “It’s too expensive! The price is OUTRAGEOUS.” you guys need to HUSH. Obviously you didn’t do your research when attempting or actually buying this phone. I looked on 3 different websites first, THEN T-mobile. First I looked on eBay, that was a waste. Then Bestbuy. $200, but I want to check out all my options. Then AMAZON. ZING! $150 with Contract and everything. Brand new phone in box. And with the company I wanted; T-mobile. Plus, it was free 2 day shipping. I have to say that was a beautiful deal. Now either I’m the only person who looks for sells, or ya’ll just lazy. I’ve had the phone 3 weeks now, and I’ve only had one issue with the phone and that was it. No back to some of the first guy (Chris Cronin). Let me tell you something. You got a problem with the music player? There are free programs on websites with alternate players(mobile9.com). You got a problem with the weight, understandable, but what do you expect from a smart phone that does everything but breathe. Now about the headphone jack, will agree, wish it had a standard one built it, but I bought a little remote online for less than 12, that let me operate the player, answer phone calls and everything from within in my pocket. SO sit down, return it cause someone else will enjoy. Point blank, phone is amazing. Would recommend to anyone.
