Sony Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition get official

eBooks

While this news will come as no surprise to anyone with even the mildest interest in following tech news, Sony introduced two new eBook readers today in the “Reader Pocket Edition” and “Reader Touch Edition”. Priced at $199 and $299 respectively, Sony’s new eBook reader duo has been rumored for quite some time now and thanks to a J&R snafu, we even caught the full specs this past Monday. As such, the biggest news from this morning is likely the fact that Sony will be dropping new releases and bestseller titles in its eBook store from $11.99 to $9.99. Also worth mentioning, Sony has stated that Mac compatibility and wireless eBook downloading a la Kindle are on the horizon. The new readers will begin shipping toward the end of this month — any takers?

I’ve always liked the screen technology on these devices. It really looks like paper or something. I hope this technology makes tit to the iphone.

So when will the other shoe drop from Apple/Verizon on the ‘iTablet/Reader/a rose by another name…’?

Oh I’ll take it fo sho. Price is much better than that 700 dollar price from back like 2 years when they first popped up. My only issue is I needs me mac compatibility and I always wanted to know weather I can read full .pdf magazines on this. Zoom in zoom out kinda deal. Some .pdf mags that I have are like 95 page double issues and I want the ability to upload them and read them without any lag issues and other issues. Don’t know if that’s possible yet but I’m waitin’ and watchin’. I do like the direction these things are heading in but they are taking a little too long to get there. Regardless, ill be waitin’ and watchin’ :) great post fellas.

    These are both Mac compatible.

I vowed never to buy a Sony device since I hate their Memory Stick memory format, which is just annoying.

But this might change things. The price and device design look to be a winner for me. I have tried to use my eeePC as an eBook Reader but I would rather have one of these as well.

Can’t wait for this to be released.

I think I’ll stick to my Kindle 2 DX

I’d get a Kindle if I could get one outside the US – since I can’t I’ll have a really good look at these.

Even if it is from Sony…

this is coming out a little too late for my start of term.

if they’d shipped it out a month earlier, i might have gotten this instead of the kindle DX.

I wish they would release the larger screen device for $99… $299 is just too much for it…

Hey, when will they make one that uses colour ink?

I want the ability to read Tech manuals, and diagrams tend to make more sense in colour.
