So much for Walmart; Amazon selling BlackBerry Curve 8520 for $0.01

Retail

Sorry Walmart, it looks like your time in the sun was over before it began — at least as far as the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is concerned. Not really of course, since Walmart presents the handset to an entirely new range of consumers across the country, but you know what we mean. We spilled the beans on 8520 pricing from Walton’s legacy ages ago and it has been the talk of the town ever since. Fast forward to launch day however, and we find that Amazon has swooped in to smash Walmart’s $49 price all over the floor. How does 1¢ on contract without ever having to leave your couch sound? Yeah, we thought so.

Thanks, Aravinda!

    So, what’s the timetable for the Blackberry Curve 8530 to be released for Verizon?

    Only thing with this is that if you already have an account w/tmobile, its alot easier to just go into a walmart (like I did for my wife yesterday) and buy it as an eligible upgrade. I didnt see an option for an “upgrade” at Amazon.

    Ugh this phone is Gar-bitch! It should given away free with a mail-in Rebate…for $50. Its such an entry level its “again” laughable to be $129 on contract.

    As long as they sell it for a Penny for Sprint Come November..

    @David
    Not sure why you expect everything for free. Its a blackberry, not the dumbphone. I thought the $50 was a fair price. My wife still had the 8320 and this is tons better than that phone. I kinda wanted it over my Bold and 8900 (just for the trackpad).

    Why can’t TMO sell it at this price on their website!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jenavive

    @ David: This is a BlackBerry. Regardless of whether you approve or not this is a steal even at T-Mobile’s price. The fact that you can get it for $50 at Wal-Mart of 1 cent at Amazon is amazing…

    Call this phone garbage but it’s way better than the one I used to sport in high school.

    That’s a great price, too bad no 3g, oh wait its tmobile anyways : )

    Why do people make such a big deal about a Blackberry release? RIM does nothing but push these things out and just about every one looks identical and does the exact same thing. Snooze fest.

    @David Thandeâ„¢,

    It is free if you buy it at Walmart.com. It says priced too low, but when you check out it shows it being free. Of course that’s with a new contract.

  • imaBB

    Hey pretzel are u serious about the no etf. How would I go about doin that? Please elaborate

  • Harry Legg

    It should be mentioned that Amazon often selles devices for a penny, but only with new two-year deals, and only for customers who are not already receiving service from the intended provider. Read the terms.
