OS X 10.5.8 now available via Software Update

Software

Surprise, Mac users — Apple released an update to OS X this afternoon and it is now available for download via Software Update. The update to Leopard, 10.5.8, seems to be a relatively minor one with the following changes listed in the updater:

  • compatibility and reliability issues when joining AirPort networks.
  • an issue that could cause some monitor resolutions to no longer appear in Displays System Preferences.
  • issues that may affect Bluetooth reliability.

The install will also upgrade users to Safari 4.0.2. Woo hoo. Apple listed two new support entries related to the update for those looking for more details. They can be found here and here. Get a move on, Apple fans.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

This update killed my Hackintosh, for anyone who is also using non-Apple hardware. Just FYI.

Let’s not be fooled by some consumer-focused description of the update. It contains a number of security fixes … some of which are pretty serious.

Christian is a PC – hahahahahahaha!!!!!

Did you see the one wjere the hootie with her nottie mom are looking for a computer for under $1700. They by pass the macs bc she says it feels like you’re paying for the name.

She settles on Dell xps 3? or some shit like that. She likes the battery life on it ha! Sucker! Seriously. What a joke. The macbook pro she coulda got for $1700 is staggeringly far superior to that Dell cow patty she bought.

I’ll get the update for all 3 of my macs.

Now – let’s get the BlackBerry for Mac desktop app going.

Beware of the updater stalling at the last couple of minutes. For some it was a short wait before it finishes. Others quite a while. Don’t freak, just be ready to wait.

AND don’t use Software Update. It’s better to download the Combo updater and hang on to it to run back over the update in the future when things start to go wonky and it will. It’ll “refresh” the install. Works great.

My bluetooth has sucked ever since upgrading my first generation MacBook to Leopard. Hopefully Apple has finally fixed it.

ATTENTION ANYONE USING THE NEW EVGA GTX 285 FOR MAC!!!!

You must install the latest drivers for this card before installing this update as not doing so will cause a kernel panic and gray screen. The driver update on EVGA’s website specifically addresses this issue.

Not doing so will force you to reinstall the factory card in order to boot the computer after the OS update. My Mac Pro would not restart in safe mode.
