RadioShack to rebrand as The Shack?

Retail

Engadget reported a little while ago that RadioShack stores would be going through a name change — from RadioShack to simply The Shack. Apparently RadioShack corporate won’t change their name but in an effort to refresh and update their brand image (we suppose no one actually buys radios at RadioShack anymore) they’re going to be slowly transitioning existing stores to the new name starting this week. There’s also word of some abnormally-sized laptop stunt prop somewhere in the mix but we won’t bore you guys with the details on that.

That’s weird. Our local Radio Shack has been called The Shack for about half a year now.

I have never heard of ‘The Hut’ or ‘The City’. And ‘The Shack’ is pretty damn stupid. They can all advertise on SyFy maybe.

Though, I will say I always looked at RadioShack as the place to go when I needed parts… LEDs, transistors, odd cables, odd batteries.. etc. For this reason alone, I hope RadioShack never goes out of business. You can’t find these things anywhere else. I understand why The Shack tries to branch out and sell PCs and toys and what not, but I always thought they should give that up and focus on DIY electronics.

Can you find transistors or leds at rat shack anymore? Last time I went there all they had was overpriced batteries and cell phone junk.

i personally work for radioshack and agree this is a waste of money. ppl have been calling radioshack “the shack” for years. they just want to freshen up their image for the tmobile launch. and this 14ft netbook thing is pretty gay. and its not mandetory to wear the stupid t-shirt they gave us in the meeting. they want us to wear that fugly shirt with slacks and dress shoes???? that will def want to attract new younger customers….

You people are pathetic. Im guessing that half of you are probally over the age of 40? Just so you know to be honest the hole rebrand immage is so that we can bring in a new age of customers, to a buisness that has grown over the last two years. I hate having all the parts grap in my store, because of people like you, you are so ungrateful to realize that you have a small store like us to go to and get almost anything you need. No need to go to a super retailer and spend hours looking for something with out any help. TRY GOING TO THE SHACK and see just how helpfull most of the stores are. You are greeted as you enter, and helped the entire time. Yes we might try to sell you a cell phone or something but its called OUR JOB! We do what we are asked. Now, why dont you go try shopeing here before you harass a company that has done nothing to you but brought in the most up to date products, and giving you prices on Sprint and ATT phones that NO other corporate store, or kiosk store can compare to.
