Purported roadmap details Sprint's WiMAX rollout in 2009

Rumor

With LTE getting closer to becoming a reality in the US each day, Sprint knows it has to kick things into high gear as far as WiMAX is concerned — love Sprint’s decision to back WiMAX or hate it, there’s no turning back now. Sprint is steering clear of specifics when discussing its official plans, especially with regards to timing. Unofficially however, a possible roadmap has just leaked and it may shine some light on what early adopters have to look forward to for the remainder of 2009. While not all of the regions listed above are cause for celebration, there are definitely some major markets on the sheet that had previously been unmentioned. And yes, the roadmap shows Baltimore getting more attention via some kind of service update before New York, LA, or San Fransisco launch. Sweet.

everyone take a breathe. these markets are pre clear wire markets that are now becoming clear. when clear launches then Sprint 4G launches.

No kidding Wang, they are one in the same. Clear is Sprint’s 4G.

I always wondered where the markets came from, them being old Clearwire makes since. Build up what you have before bringing in new

i better buy up some sprint stock…and yeah there will be a 4G phone sooner or later in the US(there is already one for those of us who know). Sprint is most likely taking the smart path with WiMax because if you you have ever heard about Japan and how it has coverage everywhere with softbank its because it uses WiMax because of how the island has mostly mountains….so imagine how since we have wide open areas how far this signal will spread?….those will probably spread to next towns and that is what Sprint wants to spread coverage and that is a smart move to use WiMax and people are gonna run back to sprint after the switch is flipped but i dont care about that….they need underground subway service….its 2009 damnit!

Anybody else notice that vzw’s test markets are in the same area as WiMax, Baltimore/Boston and Portland/Seattle? The 4G race is getting interesting

Expecting full metro areas to be last due to difficulty: Miami/NYC/LA/etc. (Chi-town, you lucky bastards.)

They’ll probably keep pace on WiMax implementation with VZW’s LTE rollout… both networks are very interested in the results of their rollout.

WiMax has my interest because I’m a rural customer, and the supposed implementation of this network is a big part of last-mile service which if nationwide would be a big help to ending the divide between the country mice (Broadband over Radio, Dial Up) and city mice (DSL, Cable, Fiber Op)… this occurance isn’t guaranteed, of course, but it is very interesting to see happen.
