Any idea on whether or not this update breaks the unlock?

sooooooo should I not do this if my phone’s jailbroken??

    I’m guessing not

    or can I?

  • StevenGlansburg

It will unjailbreak/un-unlock your phone. So if you use a carrier other than Att like me then I wouldn’t.

Anybody upgraded yet? Do we now, finally, have MMS?

  • ~Phel

Wait I thought apple products were impervious to attacks? lol

  • Dtest54

It did not however remove my tethering option.

I take offense at calling the bad guys Russians. We Russians have always been good guys – I am evidence of that. :)

@~Phel – you obviously don’t know anything about cell phones, their OS and the back-end technology.

SMS works the same way on every cell phone OS – be it Apple, Microsoft, Google or Symbian; all of them utilize the same core code to send/receive/process SMS messages.

This issue was not only within the iPhone OS, it is also within Microsoft Mobile, Google Android (has been fixed already) and Symbian. Apple released this minor patch because yesterday Dr. Charlie Miller of Independent Security Evaluators revealed this hack at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas. He had mentioned this to Apple over a month ago but had not received any feedback from them so he announced that he will make the exploit public and Apple will just have to deal with it.

So, there you have it. Now, turn off your computer and cell phones, and send them back – you’re too arrogant to own any of them.

    touche tyrone. touche. well played

    @Tyrone D.

Obviously you didn’t get ~Phel’s sarcasm.
Do you reply the same way when people attack Microsoft with their Windows security updates?

  • The Truth

    @ Tyrone D.

Holy hate man. I’m pretty sure ~Phel was just joking. Ya know, a little jab to a company who takes pride in calling itself less prone to attack.

You obviously missed the “lol” at the end of his comment. Relax.

    @Scott,

    No MMS on AT&T still.

  • ~Phel

Tyrone D (is the D for Douche?)I did notice your panties got bunched up, you must be one of those cool guys with the white earbuds I see around. I did notice Rim wasn’t listed, hmmm. As far as arrogant check the mirror pal.

Alas poor Tyrone does not know what he’s talking about. *Some* phones use the same code. However, Symbian does not share any code with Android, nor with iPhone OS, nor with BlackBerry.

It is quite possible that this is a problem with the SMS specification itself, similar to the insecurity of the SIM card. In that case, yes, everyone must code to the spec, so usually everyone has the same vulnerabilities.

Radiomodem/cellular protocol stack implementations are closely guarded trade secrets. Except by coincidence, you will not see similar implementation bugs from one stack to another.

What was that about Verizon “crippling” their phones?
Looks like your iPOS is the poster child for crippled phones.
I’ve never heard of anybody having to “jailbreak” their blackberries.

  • ~Phel

    p.s. thanks guys….

@Phel: He was just calling you stupid. And from your ignorant comment. I would say he was right. Although, he did it in a way I would not have. lol

3.01 is a POS with GPS

I have ViewTi Golf & Golfshot GPS on my iPhone 3G.

After doing the upgrade on Saturday I went out and played a round of Golf this morning.

I stared with Golfshot GPS and the phone kept going to the black screen with the Apple on it. I had to reset it 4 times by the 3rd hole. I gave up on it and tried ViewTi Golf. Not nearly as good of a GPS app but it was the one I bought first.
This app made it through 2 holes before giving me the same experience. I finally got the phone to start and turned off GPS and the phone has been fine the rest of the day.

Way to go you Slack ass developers at APPLE. Wait until the 13th hour and put out an untested POS firmware update.

So now you have to decide update your phone to be safe or have it cripple your phone.

I’ve got a buddy that has not done the upgrade and both Apps worked great as they had on mine in the past (less the lousy batter the iPhone has).

  • What??

    @ anti-Steven glansburg:

Maybe I’ve missed some crucial info along the lines of conversation while skimming thru all of these hilarious chat-disses/wars, but I had 2 correct what I understood 2 b a mistake. I personally know 3 ppl who have “jailbroken” their Blackberries for the soul intention of improvement. I also have one technologically challenged friend who wants 2, but hasn’t yet built the courage 2 step outside of the invisible corporate boundaries.

And for my final note: I am a satisfied owner of your so-deemed “iPOS”, and have yet to hear about (let alone come in contact with) a phone with remotely competative adaptive abillites. That’s why I remain headstrong in saying this impressive phone takes 1st place hands-down. (& that’s considering lack of Flash) Any software that other phones offer can be/has been immitated (if not improved upon) & distributed in the next update. IMPRESSIVE!!

All this from an avid Microsoft fan? Hmmmm…. LOL
