Renders of Android-powered Motorola Shules fly in from Mother Russia

Rumor

Hello, Sholes. Terrible codename aside, renders of Motorola’s second Android handset have just flown in from mother Russia and as we kinda/sorta alluded to earlier, this is the one we’ve been waiting for. We can confirm that this little guy is the real deal (though it’s Moto so anything can happen) and we can also confirm that it’s a gem. Seriously. Here are the specs as reported by MOTOFAN.ru:

  • Dimensions 60.00 x 115.80 x 13.70 mm
  • Weight 169g
  • Battery Li-ion 1400mAh.
  • Standby 450 hours, talk time 420 minutes
  • Display 3.7-inch touch-sensitive with a resolution 480×854 pixels, displays 16 million colors. Physical screen size is 45.72 mm by 81.34 mm.
  • 16 GB Memory (FLASH / RAM): 512MB/256MB memory card microSD / microSDHC up to 16 GB
  • SMS, MMS, E-Mail Messaging: SMS, MMS, E-Mail
  • Complete embedded HTML browser
  • Camera: 5 MP autofocus and an outbreak of
  • Connectivity: USB2.0, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR 1, Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11g)
  • Supported audio formats: AMR-NB/WB, MP3, PCM / WAV, AAC, AAC +, eAAC +, WMA
  • Supported video formats: MPEG-4, H263, H264, WMV
  • GPS navigation
  • Package Contents: Phone Motorola Sholes, battery, charger, USB cable, memory card 8GB MicroSD and other literature.

We’re not going to lie people… We’re kind of excited. The production version isn’t going to be quite as sexy as the renders of course, but it’s still plenty sexy. Now, it’s a bit lacking in some areas compared to other Android handsets coming down the pipe, but the good news for Moto is that when it hits VZW — we mean, if it hits VZW — it’ll be the only game in Android town for Big Red. MOTOFAN.ru reports that the Shules should be released around October of this year. Hit the jump for more renders.

The only thing that has me skeptical on this phone is the keyboard. We’ll see how it is overall. If the keyboard is the only mediocre thing then I could live with it.

Is this the MOTO Calgery, just a new name. Looks very similar

The device is gonna suck, no htc sense ui please andriod is gonna look naked. Unless motorola has something up there sleeve.

  • Who?

    This listing is deceptive

16 GB Memory (FLASH / RAM): 512MB/256MB memory card microSD / microSDHC up to 16 GB

It makes one think there’s 16 gb of onboard memory, when there’s not.

BGR was a little late on posting this but at any rate what is going on with this and the Calgary, so similar. I have a feeling the render for the Calgary is off. Sense UI on this would be perfect maybe someone can figure out how to put this on here. I’m ditching my storm for either android or webos (not palm pre though). I have big red won’t screw it up.

Moto phones have terrible batteries. Just hope that this phone has a battery that would last least a day of normal usage — 40-50 minutes of phone usage per day…. The old Moto phones I had lasted 20 minutes before the batteries died.

i’ll wait for something from HTC with Android on VZW. (in 2009) (mark my words)

This phone is gonna rock! And it’s going to the most reliable network!

Moto has disappointed me so much, they the nicest looking crappy phones, the Q9c the best looking phone that worked and didn’t die quick they ever made. I would love the mess out of my Renegade if it could keep a DOrA signal longer than 1 minute, didn’t freeze up all time and only have 1 hour of talk time

  • Hardware Guy

    Uses OMAP3430 processor

  • Cransr

like moto’s effort but I’m waiting for it to be compared to the Pre. Pre has multi-touch, android doesn’t have it yet. optical trackpad would be cool though. and is this suppose to be the calgary?

  • info

No this is not Calgary. Sholes and Calgary are two completely different programs, to start with Calgary is not Android.

The picture shows Sholes CDMA, there is also a Sholes UMTS. Now if only AT&T would get their act together and pick it up.

My pants are wet.. If verizon doesn’t cripple it like every other phone they have, and fully incorporate the android functionality, i’ll be outside the store before they open the day this is out.

  • info

No, this is the CDMA version. The OMAP is in the GSM version.

  • D

Both UMTS/CDMA have OMAP3430 processors. The BP’s are different.

The CDMA version will be a Google experience device and have Eclair.

The screen is capacitive. Multi touch will be supported.

It has all the expected sensors, including compass.
