Apple intros 2TB Time Capsule; 1TB model sees price cut

Retail

Sure it’s not a Tuesday but Apple apparently decided to switch things up and intro the new and improved Time Capsule duo this morning. What’s new? Space. The old $300 500GB model has gone the way of the Dodo and the 1TB model slides into its price slot (down from $500). Of course Apple wouldn’t be Apple without offering a “bigger and better” model carrying a significantly wider profit margin, so a 2TB version of the Time Capsule makes its debut in the vacated $500 slot. Time to get your backup on, Apple fans.

$500?? are you serious? One thing, apple sure makes eye catching products. But $500 is too much for this sort of device.

If $500 were too much, they’d charge less. As far as offering a “bigger and better” product for more money being an Apple thing, I’ve got news for you: it’s a BUSINESS thing. No wonder you bloggers are poor.

It has a wireless router built in as well and back up software. Still not worth it

F the time capsule. I’ve never had so much trouble setting up a device that should be so simple. I hate Apple sometimes.

Is anyone really going to fill a 2TB Capsule up??? Seems a bit overkill if you ask me

The idea of wireless back up is cool but not for $500

Yes it can easily be filled up. I don’t have a time capsule just use an external 2T hard drive with time machine and it’s almost full already.

I agree 500.00 is way too much for this.. My external 2T drive cost 285.00, granted it doesn’t have wifi but don’t need one as my cable modem has it already.

If it had a touch screen I’d get it

How is this compared to a normal external hd + an apple airport?
Seems to me that would be a lot cheaper especially if you already have the airport…

Damn, couldn’t they have added a couple of more Ethernet ports? I hate that it only has three.

Most definitely 2TB drives can be filled up. I filled up a 1TB drive in 3 months working on Pro Tools/Audio Production. Graphic Artists will use it too. It’ll market well to professionals who use apple products. It creates the illusion of a perfectly paired, rock solid product. Same scenerio as getting an expensive Apple monitor vs. any other monitor on the market. Those who have the $ will pay.

I just picked up a 2TB external from Fry’s for $199. It runs on either straight 2TB or 1TB RAID. Firewire 400, 800 and ESATA. I could buy 2 and still be cheaper than the Apple. Not worth it at all.

    @ perspective

since you talk like your rich why don’t you buy us all one?

Does your external drive include a dual band router?

The 2Tb time capsule is amazing, already filled well over half of it, and the wireless is so quick and easy to use. Anyone who can set it up to the internet in less than 10 mins out the box is a fool!!
