Financial Times: Apple's tablet due out in September

General

Flying straight in the face of recent claims from various Apple blogs, The Financial Times is reporting that Apple is aiming for a September launch of its internet tablet. The Cupertino-based company has also apparently found itself some rather unusual partners for its rumored device — EMI, Sony Music, Warner Music and Universal Music Group. The partnership, supposedly codenamed Cocktail, is an effort to combat slumping music sales by creating albums that include such things as liner notes and video clips. One thing that isn’t new however, is the claim Apple is preparing for a Christmas-time blitz against both the Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s e-book stores and readers. As for the possibility of a cellular radio, FT is reporting that it’s slim to none which really makes us wonder what’s up with all of those Verizon/Apple tablet rumors. Separate device? Complete BS? With September just over a month away, information should start flowing pretty soon if the FT rumor has any credence.

    Why is it that when Palm talked about developing the Folio two years ago everyone thought it was a ludicrous idea. Yet, not it looks like Apple is developing something similar, but it is nothing but positive news? I’m not an Apple hater, but is there a little bit of a double-standard here?

    I’d like to see a 5 MP Camera on this, but it’s doubtful as those modules are pretty pricey right now. The SSD idea is awesome, but it’ll easily double the price of it. Maybe a Touch/Nano-esque flash drive would be in line instead huh? They could easily fit 64GB’s of flash memory on this thing.

    As an architect, everyday i need reading documentation, sketching ideas…
    That’s why i never bought a common laptop, designed only for typing (please, i’m not a secetaresse nor a reporter)
    So i only work at home with an Apple iMac with 20inches screen,
    But for so many years i have been waiting this fantastic Apple Tablet allowing reading, sketching ideas, touching, listening music…
    Be sure that this Apple Tablet will definitely replace every conventional laptop.

    so until now
    BUTi have been waiting for this Apple tablet for so many years,

    where have u been? You should have gotten used to the cool and revolutionary apple logo. People say girls find u good looking and smart if u use an apple product. Wait till the ibed comes come out , then we could “shove” biased technology news up those girls.

  • rederikus

    Are you suggesting that CrApple make the iBed with an add-on called the iFu<k ?

    @Joe

    My year old Eee PC 900 has a 16GB SSD,1.8 inch!64GB and 128GB are now available,Nand is more for Cell phone devices, Apple will use some 256GB SSD’s next.
    1TB is going to be the next big wave for the 4Q and maybe Xmas, or at the latest in early 2010.

    Thank You

    @Pierre

    This tablet wont replace anything, let alone a laptop. Tablets have been around since 2002 and have yet to be succesfull. If you wanna sketch, get a wacom pen tablet like all the other artists, architects and designers. For the rest of the features you name, there are already better products than a tablet.

    Would this thing be called an Applet?

  • pierre

    @Wout
    of course i do have a wacom tablet, but i have no pleasure to draw on it, while looking at the screen; i just want to draw on the screen, i want to touch the drawing : so simply, natural, sensual, and you can feel the exact scale
    Ask them all (the other artists) and you will see…

    How is the iphone productive? You can only run one app at a time.

    I have the bitch and I hate it.
