AT&T/Rogers 3G-ready Samsung I8000 Omnia 2 clears FCC; hands on video slips out

Rumor

Sammy fans in the US (and perhaps Canada) have cause for celebration as the FCC has just given the upcoming Omnia2 its coveted nod of approval. Preliminary documentation is limited but at least one tasty tidbit can be gleaned — this little guy is packing UMTS 850/1900. That’s right people, AT&T and Rogers’ 3G frequencies are confirmed to be on board, though it remains to be seen whether either carrier will offer the handset. A quick refresher:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 850/1900 MHz, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA5.76 Mbps
  • 3.7-inch WVGA (480×800) AMOLED touchscreen, Advanced R touch (Resistive)
  • Memory: 8/16GB storage memory, hot-swappable microSD card slot (up to 32GB total)
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, TouchWiz 2.0 UI with 3D effects
  • 800 MHz processor
  • 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, dual LED flash, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization, Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and D1 video recording at 15 fps
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, standard microUSB port, standard 3.5mm audio jack, GPS receiver with A-GPS
  • Accelerometer
  • DivX/XviD video support
  • FM radio with RDS
  • DNSe
  • Dimensions: 118 x 59.6 x 11.9 mm
  • 1500 mAh battery

Anyone excited, or enough with the full touchscreen Windows Mobile phones already? Hit the jump for a nice little video showing this little guy off.

Thanks, William!

@Ankit – Why don’t you get the Samsung Omnia I8910? It has all the same specs except better processor, better camera/camcorder, capacitive screen, and symbian 5th powering it.

Noooooo!! Not Windows Mobile!! Why ruin such a slick looking phone by putting Windows Mobile on it.?!?!

This won’t be on AT&T. So don’t get all happy. lol.

This looks like a great device. I am happy that there are rumors of it coming to AT&t. Although I will not buy it (BB user for life), it seems like it will be the best WM device to date. Dare I say an iphone killer? From the specs, it appears to be evrything the iphone is an then some. I saw a video review of the web browser and it was truly amzing with flash support. We will see what happens.

Does anyone think this phone will be available with “any” us carrier in 2009?
Or if I buy the unlocked version to use on ATT’s network (or whichever network it will work on) – will all the features work or will I lose some – which for me would rather just wait to get full functionability.
I’m by no means an authority or even very knowledgeable (as most of you seem to be) – just like what I’ve seen in the Omnia 2 so far and really have come to hate my old Tilt and need to replace ASAP
Thanks for any info you can share.

I’m sure all of you have the intel by now…but one more week until release!
August 23 Verizon and Best Buy is the info I have, although no info related to pricing.
If anyone hears – please share.

This particular version of the phone can’t go on Verizon because it’s GSM – there’s a model called Omnia II on Verizon but it doesn’t look exactly the same
