A river of rumored low and mid-range handsets flows toward Verizon

Rumor

Now before you get too excited about the bevy of rumored handsets listed below, we want to be extra clear in stating that this is rumor. A definite rumor. A steaming pile of rumor. And so on. While the source of this list has proven somewhat reliable in the past, it is also a bit loose at times with tipster-sourced information. Ok, enough with the disclaimer… Feast your eyes on a laundry list of low and mid-range handsets (and the Storm 2) reportedly headed to Verizon in the near future:

  • LG Chocolate Touch VX8575 – Full touchscreen, might be like the BL40
  • BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 – October-November release
  • Nokia Shade 2705 – Replaces the Mirage 2605
  • Nokia Twist 7705 – This might be the swivel-style phone that has been rumored for months.
  • Palm Treo 800W – “Even though this was released for Sprint last year, Verizon may not have it out until February 2010.”
  • Motorola Entice (or Harmony) W766 – Replaces the W755
  • Samsung Rogue U960 – Replaces the Glyde U940, expected in August
  • Samsung U450 – Verizon Mobile TV-compatible
  • Samsung Strut U440 – QWERTY handset
  • Samsung Omnia-II i920 – Due out by Christmas

And a few PTT handsets to boot:

  • Motorola V860
  • Samsung Convoy U640
  • Casio Rock C731
  • Casio Brigade C741

Sweet. Happy Sunday everyone.

omnia 2 and storm 2 are not low to mid-range

I have Verizon Wireless now, but seriously, how long can I wait to get something that is really worth getting excited about? BB Storm was fail, Tour is great and solid, but it just replicates whats already available on other carriers.
WinMo phones don’t excite me, and until BlackBerry seriously updates it’s OS, I have no desire for a touchscreen BB.

This was a rumor of whole bunch of upcoming phones, and BGR labeled them as low and midrange after the fact. We have no idea if it really excludes higher end phone or not.

I just called Verizon about the omnia 2. Was waiting for this phone and my contract is up in October. I asked the termination fee and told them I would switch to iPhone bc
    a) I have a bigger discount on service through my employer and 2) $70 fee to cut verizon service was worth it to get a phone I wanted.

She asked which phone I was interested in, put me on hold and then told me to check out phonearena. She seemed to suggest that it had the most information reguarding the release. Just stringing me along??? The release date there says July!?!?

The storm2 is mid range? So hell the storm was what?

  • anthony

Its sad the verizon network logo is the main picture. I travel a lot and verizons network really isn’t “all that”. Sometimes my att service is better than sometimes the verizon. Stop slurping

What about Microsoft`s `Pink`? Wasn’t that phone also rumored to come out by the end of this year?

  • VZW

Tell me some “great” phones AT&T and Sprint have came out with besides the Pre and the iPhone at&t 3G = (S)hit.

Sprints phones suck the most. They have very little of a choice to choose from because they don’t have the money to buy higher end phones.

    I thought Storm2 was AT&T-bound. Not true?

    @VZW.

AT&T got the first Curve. A huge coup.

Besides the iPhone and Pre (sprint)? That’s not logical to exclude them. But ok, let’s exclude Verizon’s best phone to level the comparisons, the Tour. But ya just got that was only yesterday.

AT&T got the Bold a long time ago.

My brain is faltering. Good night.

Hey VZW Dude, you are getting the old Treo 800 in the fall and ‘soon’ get Treo Pro. That’s great! The Pro in ’09? Still getting the Pre in 2010? Please keep me from giving up & either getting a Tour or finally bailing on VZW for a phone I want.

Don’t hold your breath, vzw gets Palms really late with a maybe exception of the “like Pre” EOS

  • fresh2death618

    @VZW

    @ VZW

  • steve

    VZ Palm PRO, “soon” =when?

  • Don Louie Cantone

So VZW says they aren’t big on Palm but thier 850 (Pro) is coming soon while the 800 won’t be there til next year?

  • 1jaxstate1

Had to get the link sent via text.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

There is an Android phone codenamed Shules coming to VZW before the Motorola Calgary. Look out for it.

  • VerizonTester

I was the person who originally posted this information and I know these phones aren’t exciting but I do have some new info.

Verizon will be launching their first Android phone for Christmas….The Motorola A855 (though its known as the Calgary that is not its official name) is a very sweet phone to work on and while we are still completing final testing I know everyone will be happy to see this finally hit the shelves. Also, the new chocolate touch is not anything like your old lime green 8500 (whoever thought that color was a good idea should be tar and feathered). It currently has wifi, flash interface, 5 megapixels and is not anything close to a “mid range handset”. Samsung Rogue will make you forget its predecessor the Glyde. The large high resolution touch screen is easy to manuever and the UI will remind you more of a smartphone than the bland UI some verizon users have had to get used to.

  • VerizonTester

Also, Storm and Omnia will see a similar early to mid November launch with the TP2 looking at December most likely.

  • Don Louie Cantone

What about your compatriot talking up a Treo Pro (850) coming out before the Treo 800?

  • Reggie

Verizon should be ashamed of themselves or need to fire the CEO
