Sony Ericsson C905a: coming July 19th to an AT&T store near you

General

Well boys and girls, call this one confirmed. We scooped it last week and now Sony Ericsson has made AT&T’s C905a official. July 19th is indeed the date you can get your mitts on the 8.1 megapixel beast and as far as pricing goes, you’re looking at 179.99 after rebate on a 2-year contract. A quick recap of the spec highlights:

  • 8.1 megapixel camera with a xenon flash, auto-focus and video capture
  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, dual-band HSDPA
  • On-device image editing
  • Scratch-resistant mineral glass display
  • GPS
  • FM Radio
  • Bluetooth
  • Memory Stick Micro (M2) support up to 16GB

Ok photogs, stop drooling on your keyboards. It’s definitely no “Rachael” but its also a hell of a lot more exciting than the W205/W205a SE (re)announced this morning. Anyone planning to check this puppy out this Sunday? Hit the jump for more shots.

Does anyone know if the camera is legit? Having owned two cybershot cameras in the past I was hoping this 905 would be on par in photo quality. Anyone have experience with it?

    @StevenGlansburg,

I had the unlocked European version of this phone for a while, and can say that the camera was killer. Unfortunately, I never could get it to check my email for some reason. I’m pretty sure they’ve got that ironed out in this US version though. But yeah, the camera is off the hook.

Could’ve sworn they supported video calling in some areas…

I’ve been “testing” one for about 3 months now….it’s a great phone!! The camera takes wonderful pictures! I’m still waiting on a sofware update because I know there is old firmware on my device. Be sure to get this phone! You’ll be glad you did! The front facing camera doesn’t work. ATT customized the firmware! My device says that it supports WIFI and it doesn’t. The European version supports it (DLNA). I wish that AT&T would stop screwing up their phones by removing features that people want!

    haz video calling?

  • Gibby

No video calling….the US model does not have this feature.

  • robert

it does do video calling which is called video sharing in the us

  • Gibby

    @ Robert,

The C905a that I have in my hands does not have video calling (video enabling). It might be available through a firmware upgrade, but I do not have this feature listed anywhere in the device.

Yeah, the big question is what did AT&T lobotomize off the poor thing. No Wifi? Ack. It’ll be like my K850i with GPS and a little bit better camera.

At least the SE community will likely be able to unbrand and repair any damage ATT does.

  • Gibby

johdaxx…that’s precisely what I’m waiting for! Get this sucker unbranded and updated to the latest firmware…and get rid of the ATT bloatware!

  • TP

    No Keyboard?

  • Gibby

    TP, there’s no QWERTY keyboard.

And I’m sure they will remove the sony email app and put their cheap mobile email on it. What a shame at&t does that. Randle stephenson should be ashamed at his company and their complete lack of innovation and their blatent attempt to hold back innovation.

Have a c905i. Camera is legit. Comparable to a 3-4mp stand-alone camera. Pictures are printable. Xenon flash is what seperates it from other 8mp cmaera phones. Never had a front facing camera. What looks like a camera is actually a light sensor. Video calling never really took off in Europe where it has been available for years and is being phased out it seems. Att removing the Wifi is a awful move! Wonder if a unlocking enables wifi to function again. Bluetooth and wifi use same antennae. The black version has a finish on the back that is more pleasing to the touch than the copper or silver. It’s more rubberized and less prone to scratches IMO. As nice as it is to see American carriers picking up some decent phones, they should learn to leave the phones features alone. No carriers software/firmware ever seem to improve a phones original features…..
