Google Android struck with sweet tooth: Donut, Eclair and Flan for the future

General

Not to be overshadowed by Chrome OS, Android is still moving strong and has plenty of updates coming in the future. Google and T-Mobile held a media event on June 10th and Andy Rubin, vice president of engineering at Google, clarified Chrome OS is not a replacement for Android — duh. Future updates are still full steam ahead and will include more support for social networking along with different application payment methods besides Google Checkout. T-Mobile will allow payment to be directed to the user’s monthly bill, just like ringtones, wallpapers and themes (if anyone actually still buys that stuff through carrier mediums). The updates are also going to carry some sweet, cavity-inducing, diabetes-spiking names that all started with “Cupcake”. Ahead we’ll find “Donut”, “Eclair” and the slightly more exotic “Flan”. Will Google continue to class things up and issue “Tiramisu” and “Creme Brulee” down the road or will it take things down a notch with “Deep Fried Snickers Bar”? Of course no one really cares as long as those updates keep coming.

“Ring Dings” would be a good sweet tooth name for a phone OS.

Seeing as Google is an American company, and Americans have a penchant for the fatty foods, and a distinct anti-French attitude, my vote is for deep fried snickers, or any other carnival/rodeo based snack food.

I also wonder if we’ll see integration or implementation of Google voice in future updates.

Make sure you have a dental plan before buying an Android handset. These “sweet” names are sure to cause you some pain down the road.

On a serious note, I’m selling my G1. It is just to hard to read gmail, email or messages due to the extremely small fonts, which you can’t changed.
If only it had a zoom feature that worked throughout the whole OS. I guess Google thought that all users were going to be people with 20/20 vision & under 25 yrs. of age. As much as I liked the Android OS I’m not a buyer again until someone releases an android phone that has a larger 3.5″ screen, larger fonts & a zoom feature that works everywhere, not just the browser. Got to give Apple credit for making sure that this wasn’t an issue with their iphone.

Oh, I forgot to add how brain dead the G1 designers were not to include a 3.5mm audio jack. I hate the fact that if you’re charging your phone you can’t use your headphones. Has to be one of dumbest things Google has ever overlooked, or didn’t demand be included.

you may notice that they are going in alphabetical order, which makes me wonder what g could be.

I really would like to hear some news on Android devices coming to VZW. Motorola Calgary looks like a sidekick so I hope thats not the only thing to look forward to or at least I hope the design has changed some.

im putting my money on gummy bears!

oh and @ Lancelot…the lack of 3.5mm jack is not a G1 developer thing, its called an htc thing which is going to be addressed on all htc handsets following the hero.

Tuh Tuh Tuh Tour is out!

    @ wallyson

Just because your wallet is too skinny to afford any Android phone is no reason to hate.

  • mike

Flan will be followed by Ganache

    @Joe

G1 user here and you need to open your mind to a little sarcasm. I’d explain my post but will save my finger energy for another more worthwhile endeavor.

My motorola Q9m is still the very best and it’s two years old: spread sheets, word, etc. I love Motorola. The new name for the androids should be “UNICORN” since it is just as real, just so many promises that I have not seen yet!!

Hmm… I hope for one update to be named Klondike.

What would you do for Android: Klondike edition. Now with a thicker shell!

Got any of that beer that has candy floating in it? You know, Skittlebrau? Well, then just give me a six-pack and a couple of bags of Skittles.

The ability to pay for apps through the T-Mobile bill will significantly lower the barrier for the adoption of higher-priced apps – we may see a marginal increase in average app price once this feature is introduced.

Android sucks. It’s unfinished, and is BARELY a functioning operating system. I have the following issues on a daily/hourly basis: SLOW, crashes, force closes. Android doesn’t even have a consistent look. Each native app looks completely different.
