Moto says hello to the ROKR ZN50

General

It might not be the most exciting new handset to come to light this year, or this month, or even today… But Moto has just added a new piece to the ROKR puzzle this morning. Say hola to the Moto ROKR ZN50. For the time being it looks like this puppy will be confined to South Korea but availability in other markets is likely at some point down the road. As far as music phones go, it’s not terrible:

  • WCDMA 2100/HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900
  • Dimensions: 108.9mm x 54mm x 14.3mm
  • Weight: 143g
  • Display: widescreen touch-sensitive 3.2-inch, TFT, 240×427 pixels resolution, 262k colors
  • Camera: 3.2 megapixels with auto-focus
  • Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR
  • “SRS WOW HD” sound system
  • GPS
  • microSDHC support
  • Battery: 900 mAh
  • Other applications: Alarm clock, calendar, calculator, units converter, world time

At the right price and in the right markets, we can see the ROKR ZN50 shining to some extent. Rumor suggests it will drop near the end of the year and will come with free access to a music download service of some kind.

Moto phones look like they are aimed at children who love lots and lots of bright colors mashed together. I wish they would get back to the more professional looking devices with minimiliztic/simple lines like the SLIVR.

  • bluehorseshoe

    Someone at Motorola approved that?

I actually really like this! Now if only it had at the very least quadband EDGE, if not global 3G. Or better yet AWS T-Mobile 3G.

This would definitely go well on T-Mobile USA I think…

    WTF… 900mAhr battery?!?

This is a music phone that runs for 30 hours using its specialized multimedia chip.

It also seems ripe for android with its full touch WQVGA screen, GPS, accelerometer, 3.2MP autofocus camera, 4GB on board memory, 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth (seemingly with the ability to play to both and the same time for two listeners!), Crystal Talk, Surround Sound etc.

Motorola also has it in Black and Blue which looks great.

It might do 30 hours of music due to a multimedia chip, but if it has android and a large touch screen people are going to want to use data and especially the internet and there is no way that battery is up to snuff.

Also 4GB of memory for a phone positioned for music…what?

  • Sammysam

Okay, umm why would I want a physical dialpad when most touch-screen phones nowadays have an on-screed dialpad?? Defeats the whole purpose of having a large touchscreen if you ask me!

Now gimme a slide out QWERTY KEYPAD, and now we’re talking!

A 3.5mm ear jack allows users to listen to music with the high-quality headset of their choice. Users may also simultaneously connect with a Bluetooth headset. The music control keys are placed externally so they can be easily controlled without sliding the phone open.

ROKR is distinguished by having both a large full-touch screen display and a sliding keypad. The keypad is hidden by the full-touch screen display while closed, appearing only when opened by the user. The dual input feature of either a touch screen display or a keypad allows the user to choose the input method that is most convenient for their given situation.

Motorola has incorporated various features into ROKR that enhance user convenience by fully utilizing the display. ROKR boasts the new panorama user interface, which supports three separate screens, allowing more widgets and shortcuts to be arranged according to usage patterns.

ROKR comes with 14 flash games which can be accessed and played with the touch of a finger, and seven touch-toys that can be saved on the background display. The built-in motion sensor adds fun and charm by allowing users to play games by touching, shaking or tilting the phone.

ROKR is packed with more features, meticulously selected with the users’ needs and convenience in mind. Terrestrial DMB2, 3 megapixel camera, VOD2 and MP3 playback provide a multimedia experience of a higher dimension, and the noise cancelling function ensures calls of a clearer quality. Also, functional and convenient features such as Bluetooth connectivity and phone naviagtion2 and 3 are included to enrich the mobile experience.

As a music phone for trendsetters who pursue their own style, ROKR comes in two colors. The first model combines chic black with fiery red and exudes a refined and sophisticated feel, while the second model matches cool winter-blue with white in an eye-catching color combination.

To celebrate the launch of ROKR, Motorola is sponsoring the first solo concert of British rock band, Placebo, on August 5 2009 at the Olympic Hall of the Olympic Park in Seoul.
