HTC Ozone gets official with Verizon Wireless; available June 29th for $50

General

No surprises with this one as our leaked spy shots, release date, pricing details and specifications were all spot on. Today, Verizon Wireless made all that we already knew about the HTC Ozone official. Those looking for a basic Windows Mobile phone with a QWERTY keyboard will only have to shell out a meager $49.99 after $70 mail-in rebate and 2-year contract for the HTC Ozone. The Ozone will be available online, through telesales and B2B channels starting June 29th with a full in store retail launch to follow on July 13th. Yeah, it’s not the Tour but $49 for a sweet new Windows Mobile smartphone isn’t too shabby at all.

Wish Sprint got this version instead of the Snap (still loving my Snap though)!

    VERIZON REBATE SHEET!!!

  • 3 Phones Jugglin

Well, the Sprint version is only $400 outright…even that is a good deal. Usually theyll have you payin over 500 for basic smartphones like this.

I prefer the Sprint Version..Verizon Users will boast because this is one of the times the get WiFi….but either way neither has the Trackball of the Snap

  • Vic

I look at subsidized pricing, not MSRP. Verizon is $50 and Sprint is $150. The Ozone also includes auto-focusing camera and international capabilities (along with a better keyboard from what I can tell) vs. the Snap.

Why do they keep TEASING us??? Stop with these S$%%%Y phones and bring out the tour!

I can’t believe management is so tight that NO ONE knows when this thing is getting released…

I wonder what Verizon’s thinking with this. I mean, at that price point, it effectively kills every other smartphone (Blackberries excluded) in their lineup as far as bang-for-the-buck goes. It’s the same price as the Centro, for crying out loud. The only downside of this phone is the lack of a touchscreen (though some people may actually like that).

This move makes me wonder if we’re going to see device price drops across the board at Verizon.

Whatever the case, this phone should sell very well at that price point, as long as consumers are aware that it exists.

with no touchscreen, i’d rather have the Saga!! it’s the same specs!

but who cares about this, bring on the TP2!!

  • Verizon Guy

Note–this one will launch with unlocked Standalone GPS with extended ephemeris (fast first-time fix) in addition to Verizon A-GPS (for VZNavigator)

    @Rollins

I hear ya man.. that is a sweet price, and it has pretty good stats. I can see me deploying the hell out of this thing.

WinMo standard is actually pretty nice for the normal not techy user, especially anybody comming from the non touchscreen blackberry world.

still no flash on the camera…. I really use the heck out of that on my Q9c…. oh.. what to do =(

  • lomion

The tour release date will be announced via the BlackBerry, carrier website and email on June 30th around 2pm est.

  • grrr

@lomion are you a vz rep or someone cooler???

  • dirtychoncho

That’s ugly, just looks like a Palm treo pro.

  • Mik

Looks like the button are about fall off.
Wish they stuck with the trackball or implemented an optical mouse. Either one would have been so much better than a directional pad.
I was realy hoping the leaked pics of this for VZW were photoshopped. This thing is just ugly.
I was contemplating going back to Winmo from BB. I fell in love with the BB design a long time ago (screen above QWERTY) as it is so quick and easy to access, msg and use in general.
When I heard this was coming out I was excited that HTC would be making a device in my favorite configuration on VZW. Boy am I disapointed.
Looks like I’ll be sticking with BB and getting the Tour when it comes out.

It slays me when people whine about form before even holding it in their hands. This is an interesting development from vzw…a world phone, winmo, HTC, and only $50?!? There’s still no phone that has everything I want, but for $50 this is very very nice. Trackball…yawn. Perhaps most interesting is vzw going low price on an htc phone. They’ve generally really liked their htc’s based on the prices…heck, with the tp2 looming they still want $350 on a tp with a 2 year plan, and $300 or a diamond. Heck one of the two year old vzw branded htc’s (5800) is still $100…$50 more than this!

What will this mean pricewise for other htc’s??? Will the tp be getting blown out soon in preparation for the tp2? and something similar on the omnia as the omnia II is rumored for next month (believe it when i see it!)

I have a seed device and trust me its nothing special and yet another ho-hum WinMo device.

The keypad and screen are decent, the buttons are a bubble like so after using the Bold I wasn’t digging it. The middle control is just outright awful. I was ready to put it back in the return box the next day.

I’ve passed it around to a few of our power gadget users and after holding it they all asked me the same thing:

When is the Tour coming out?

Mid July cannot get here soon enough.

  • yums

Can we finally give VZW and HTC a little love. They put out a WinMo device that is better than Sprint for 1/3 of the cost.

Global, WIFI, and Unlocked GPS! Admit it, VZW may have actually done something right…

  • lomion

    @grr

    Not a VZW rep.

  • jay gru

    ugly looking phone

  • UNKNOWN

It appears to be the T-Mo Dash but on VZW!! LOL

  • FrankenBerry

It will probably run like crap just like the Touch Pro.

  • mike

how much will this phone cost if i just walk in and buy it?

  • Rob

What a junk phone!! Just got one from VZW and after 4 hours of ownership, they wanted to send a replacement. Data system inop.Typical windows based unit Time for a Berry…
