HTC Firestone image emerges: early rendering or clever Photoshop?

General

A new image of an HTC-branded Windows Mobile handset has surfaced. The source of the image claims it is a rendering of the HTC Firestone, a handset that was included in HTC’s leaked 2009 lineup, and adds the following specifications:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS 900/2100, HSDPA
  • Windows Mobile 6.5
  • 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen transflective TFT display, 65536 colors (boo)
  • 600Mhz Qualcomm 8250 processor
  • 256MB RAM and 512 MB ROM
  • MicroSD expansion
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • 802.11b/g
  • AGPS
  • G Sensor
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • 8 megapixel camera
  • Target launch: August 2009

Unfortunately, the reliability of the source is unknown and the rendering looks so “2008″ with the older arrow-emblazoned HTC logo and the glossy Touch Diamond design. The mock up is also missing the zoom bar, a key cosmetic feature seen on HTC’s 2009 Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2. Hopefully, this is just an old rendering and not a Photoshop job as we would love to see this handset debut later this summer.

fake .. Winmo 6.5 phones are required to have a “Windows logo” button, not the “Home” button shown in this rendering …

  • grrr

agree, i’d say fake. it looks like a diamond1 w/o the dpad and an uglier back. OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE!?!

As soon as a phone’s got a decent mpx camera w/ flash and a 3.5mm headphone jack…my interest gets piqued!

  • warhed

wonder were they get their info… 8mp camera without a FLASH! yeah real nice.

why would there be an 8 MP with 65K colors?

i know the screen is small so it’s not like millions of colors or the resolution of an 8 MP photo can be appreciated on it, but it still doesn’t make sense.

Am I the only one who’s getting tired of seeing phones that don’t have discrete buttons on the front?

As time goes on, figuring out the sweet spot to push so that you get the Home button instead of the dialer will become a pain in the ass.

yea.. i’d say it’s a faker but i still like the overall design

  • mobileswitch

And WM 6.5 hasn’t looked like that “honeycomb” start menu since some of the earliest leaked builds long ago..

    Where is the damn Whitestone

  • JustMe

Def a fake.. as Fahad said, all Windows Mobile 6.5 phones are to have a mandantory physical “start” button using the Windows logo.. Not the little home button shown in the picture above.

i can read thai (the original language that this is written in) and i can tell you that this is written as more of an ad for an upcoming fake phone than for a pr release. furthermore, why would they release this kind of news in thailand? they wouldn’t is the answer.

for the record though, the site does okay in terms of credibility.

    Dear HTC,

Please hire the photoshop artist who rendered this and put him on your Android team.

    Thanks in advance

Fake, obviously. Or at the very least fake specs. They say it is a WVGA screen, but whipping out my ruler I can easily see that it isn’t. WVGA is either 16×9 or 5×3, this one seems to be 3×2, or the iphone’s ratio, making it even more likely to be fake.

Fake or not, this phone is not much different than Touch HD. I hope HTC will come out with more innovative features, like built-in digital mobile TV DVB-T. TV-OUT is also useful.

I say fake . The minute HTC hears or sees the word 3.5mm they go home running to mama. this is wishfull thinking
