One thing consumers always seem to worry about is electronic security, especially when it comes to places like mobile carriers where a lot of sensitive information is stored. Although unconfirmed, there have been reports that T-Mobile’s infrastructure has been hacked and proprietary operating data, customer databases and financial records became vulnerable. T-Mobile hasn’t made any formal statements yet and information regarding the security breach is nowhere to be found on its website. We’re sure that, if the reports are true, the company is doing everything it can to figure out how it happened and to exercise some kind of damage control. Also, the last thing they want to do is make everyone panic unnecessarily… But you know what you need to do: stockpile water, freeze-dried goods and MREs.

    Jesus T-Mobile, I give up… At least now I’m likely to get a waived ETF coming my way. Time to make the jump to the boys in blue.

    @Queen the name of the movie is “Hackers”.

    First i have to pay the 3g plan rates even though my home town only has edge, now they may nave given away my sensitive information… How much is an early termination fee again?

  • me

    I wonder if this is related to the new Customer Service platform they rolled out recently?

    wasn’t it just a year or so ago when a t-mobile hr employee lost a laptop at an airport and had sensitive information stolen too? hm… maybe that’s why they can provide cheaper service than everybody else. oh well, unless at&t gets any cheaper every month, looks like i’m stuck.

    MREs … Thanks for that! Now I’m hungry, damnit!

    @manmythlegend
    wtf are you talking about paying for 3g plans? there is no price difference for a edge/3g plan. i dont have 3g in my area yet and its not that big of deal.

    the report isnt even official; someone stated they hacked the system and they’re trying to figure out what’s going on and if it’s true.

    Seems like this is generating a fair amount of online buzz… e.g. http://phandroid.com/2009/06/07/t-mobile-hacked-data-stolen-including-everything/

    “To reaffirm, the protection of our customers’ information and the security of our systems is paramount at T-Mobile. Regarding the recent claim on a Web site, we’ve identified the document from which information was copied, and believe possession of this alone is not enough to cause harm to our customers. We continue to investigate the matter, and have taken additional precautionary measures to further ensure our customers’ information and our systems are protected. At this moment, we are unable to disclose additional information in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, but customers can be assured if there is any evidence that customer information has been compromised, we would inform those affected as quickly as possible.”

    @Hoop

    I’m saying there SHOULD be a price difference; why should I (and apparently you as well) pay the same amount when our home areas don’t have 3G coverage?

    No one pays the same amount for Dial-Up as they would for FiOS.

  • Matt

    Well, what if you have Sprint and are not in their 3G area. Do you pay less? ;)

    I think people are worrying a lil too much. It’s not even confirmed yet about the report and even so, don’t think for a second that they aren’t on the situation a we speak. Furthermore, if tmobile can get hacked, please believe the other wireless juggernauts can eventually be hacked also. Kids, don’t feed into all of the comotion. You’ll be wasting your money with etf fees and headache with switching. Period.

    I remember that movie. I forget the name but it was an older movie. The main guy in the middle got computer banned from a child for scamming a whole bunch of people until he was 18. And then he met some new hackers when he was trying to mess with the TV movies. ….The middle part of the movie the try to take down the main super bad guy and win. They recruit all these hackers to spam all the bad guise. It was only funny because of the ‘computer ban until you are 18′ and the 80s-90s theme. I wouldnt recommend it.

    T-mobile is only good for the side kick XXD
