Nokia N900 pops up in promo video

Rumor

Leave it to our eagle eyed readers to dig through the depths of YouTube and emerge with some sweet eye candy. During a purported presentation last October from Axel Meyer, head of Nseries design at Nokia, the upcoming Nokia N900 Internet Tablet was given a bit of face time in a promo video. Granted, plenty of time has passed since this video was recorded so odds are good that the finished product will end up looking more like it did in the leaked mock up than in this video. For a quick reresher, reported specs at this point include a 59.7mm x 111mm x 18.2mm body, 3.5-inch 800×480 (WVGA) touchscreen, OMAP3430 500/600 Mhz processor, 5.0 MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash and auto-focus, 1GB total virtual runtime memory, Wi-Fi, HSPA, GPS and an accelerometer. Hit the jump for the video.

Thanks, CanisMajor!

with iphone and the palm pre already on the market, i wonder what nokia is about to do next. simply introducing an updated internet tablet won’t do it, it has to be better than that. to me, adding a cellular module (calls + sms) and investing much more in maemo and promoting it would certainly be an interesting move.

oh and by the way. i wish nokia would give up on n97 (it’s already outdated) and focus their efforts more on developing their internet tablet concept and the maemo platform (or if not, join with android, although i hope not).

the internet tablets were a good idea at the time when nokia introduced them, but being connected includes ordinary phone calls + sms, and that’s partly why they didn’t succeed and the iphone was so succesful: combining phone calls, sms, web surfing and relatedness (facebook, twitter, IM to some extent).

    This is not real!
    Just an elaborate student project.
    Sorry…

I believe I read on Engadget that this is a fake, and that this was a school project or something to that effect.

Update: We’re being told that this was little more than a student-led art project — and it’s one hell of an art project, considering that it looks every bit as slick as Nokia’s official marketing. Thanks, Ryan A.! (from Engadget)

Pretty sure that pic is actually the N810 regardless of what the words say …

So why is this just now making the rounds of the blogosphere when this video is like two years old??

Heck, even the names were changed upon debut–the N96 is called the “N97″ in the video, while the “N96″ is some other device that I couldn’t quite pinpoint.

    Video date: January 19, 2007

It’s the presentation of the Nseries line-up for 2008 (it says Experience 2008).
The tablet which is named N900 in the video is the N810. There are products as Jeremiah said that changed the name for production units. The N96 mentioned in the clip was not released.

    I call bullshite on this.
    Too many wrong brand postings.
N96 featured looks like the N78 which is no longer in production.
The proposed N900 became the N810WiMAX edition it looks IDENTICAL; nothing new.
Also the production N96 was featured as the N97 lol.

Sorry this video looks like its early 2008 and in South America and thus the reason why it referenced 2007. Actually looks like its filmed in 2007 proposing what 2008 products would debute. Then again the N81 was the ONLY product number that was accurate and it launched in 2007.

This video is awful. They completely messed up the N-Series phone names – the N96 is label as the N97 and the N96 is label as some other phone. The guys at Nokia have no idea what they’re selling. The N900 in this video is the N810.
