Next-gen iPhone video chat gets pictured?

Rumor

Two new images have emerged which purportedly show off the front facing camera of the upcoming next-gen iPhone. One simply shows the camera in action presumably taking a self portrait while the other is demoing a video chat. Real or fake? More importantly, and considering pretty much no one has cared about mobile video conferencing over the past few years, is anyone looking forward to this feature? Hit the jump for larger shots.

    Count down to WWDC.

Video calling has been used in Europe and parts of Asia for a few years now and no one really seems interested in it there. I can’t see this being that big a deal at this point.

What’s with all the really bad gramar and spelling in the comments? The morons trying to crack on each other while using Ebonics makes you both sound REALLY stupid. Maybe you should learn English before you buy an iPhone or a Pre ?

Also I think the pics are fake and the iPhone will be announced Monday but released at the end of the month with a 3.0 update.

This maybe a stupid question, but what’s this background app?

I’d totally love video chats to converse in sign language.

Skype Mobile…if the hardware is there it’s there, I think it’s neat.

this looks fake. for a couple of reasons… why is this originating on expatriate website? the picture of the camera taking a picture of the iphone in hand is the wrong hand. presumably the right hand is holding the iphone, but the picture is of the left hand. I don’t know, I will be very surprised if this is indeed of the iphone

I guess a front facing cam could be cool, if it is real. I would just need to find some iChat buddies :(

Good eye, I just noticed that too. I don’t think this is real either. They both look like those fake Chinese or Japanese iphone knock-offs.

    QUESTION:

*”If” the new iphone comes out this week, would it be cheaper/better to buy from the apple store or at&t?
*will i save money in terms of contract, or will i have better choice if i pay ‘full price’?

im not sure how these people work, i understood that the prices are the same from whichever……true? hope not…..

video chat has been around the world for YEARS, and here is the kick…nobody caught on.

it turns out that people do NOT like to look at the person they are calling except for porno and BF/GF time, it wasn’t worth the network traffic.

but hey, lets hear it for another potentially year old tech, being touted as CUTTING EDGE for the iphone..

I could see this feature being useful for the hearing impaired as mentioned before. Rather than texting they could communicate with signing. On the flip side of that, most people don’t really use this feature, but I guess it would be nice for some to have.

excellent opportunity for video conferencing!!! without saying what i can’t say, i know a lot about features and their packages for a very popular 3G carrier. i can tell you that in the 2 YEARS that a mobile video sharing feature (one way) has been available, it has not made me any money. the promo free month is about the longest it lasts. it’s a bunch of fun demo-ing the feature, but i’ve had access to a TON of phones and have never used it in my outside life. i think being able to Sign through the phone is the BEST reason i’ve heard to keep going with the tech!

Every time 2 way video conferencing (from mobile) comes up, i always thing about the final race scene in Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift. Remember Bow Wow and friends posted up and down the mountain???
