Apple rumor roundup: Jobs returning with fanfare at end of June, WWDC to be full of iPhone goodness

Rumor

A slew of Apple rumors are rolling off the press at an alarming rate. Most recent is a report from the Wall Street Journal confirming that international man of mystery Steve Jobs will be returning to Apple at the end of June. Jobs will return with a bang at a media event to coincide with a new product launch or a public event. According to the WSJ, WWDC will still be a Schiller-run show with the new iPhone taking center stage. Duh. The new iPhone is expected to be available in early July, around the two year anniversary of the first iPhone (need to snag those early adopters whose contracts are expiring), and will feature a faster processor and video editing capabilities. If that is not enough of a confirmation of a new iPhone for you then turn your eyes to the retail marketplace where the third generation handset is reportedly appearing in inventory lists from Carphone warehouse as the iPhone V3 and at AT&T support as the iPhone Video. Several purported images have also emerged, as seen above. They all jibe but of course none have been verified as authentic at this point. Last but not least, the Financial Times is reporting that Apple plans to launch a low cost version of its iPhone at WWDC, priced at $149 or $99 with a contract in order to attract those Walmart shoppers increase its market share.

the physical keyboard is not going to happen with Apple. You will have to get a Blackberry which is designed for the less coordinated, older crowd that can’t adapt to the lack of physical buttons.

I really want to see two new iPhones. A $99 version with the same features as the current 3G, and a higher end model with different features for $300-400. If it’s under $300, I wont be buying one.

  • RIP-ODB

Umm yea like I said “…physical keyboard I don’t expect that”

It’s really just a matter of typing speed, not coordination or how old you are. Doesn’t take much coordination to press your finger to a screen.

But you got your shot in on Blackberry’s. Hope you feel better.

    Still no flash?

As the only thing I’m interested in is Apple’s Apps, I am looking forward to a new Ipod Touch as opposed to the new Iphone even though I doubt there will be much improvement compared to what’s already available.

    @ steven.
Your great until you start talkin non-sense here.
“Less coordinated”? You know that blackberry’s is a vital buissness tool and i-phone is designed as a consumer gadget to “play around with”. So let me get this straight. The ppl who run buissneses are the “less coordinated” ones and the teens who twitt, blog facebook all day out of fun, you call them the “coordinated” ones?
And no, not every body likes a touchscreen, I’m not even 30 and I hate the damn touch screen.

  • RIP-ODB

    Well said Joe.

Plus if you think about it the smaller keys on Blackberry are going to be much harder for a truly uncoordinated people (like seniors).

Anyway, I’m stuck in the gray area of needing a business tool but loving gadgets. I’ve been a Blackberry user for years but considering the jump.

I am just glad that we all agree this is a tech blog and not a flame war site. So moving along those lines, if there is going to be arguing maybe it should be tech related… Let me know when we can get back to discussing… you know tech stuff.

  • frankenberry

While I am up on the soapbox I would like to direct you to the line, “Several purported images have also emerged, as seen above”. That means Kelly is not claiming that pic is real.

  • Cletus

still, looking forward to 3.0, ..july?

  • motomann

    pre is better!!!

  • warrentotheg

From the looks of the pic on the far right, I would say the headphone jack has been moved to the bottom of the device. I actually like that concept. Pull my phone out of it pocket and the phone will be ready for use the right side up, while in pocket the headphone hub pointing up. Just wish the facists at Verizob would get this, cuz AT
