AT&T chops prices of BlackBerry Bold and Curve 8900 to $199.99 and $149.99

Retail

Good news for those of you who are in dire need of a new smartphone but would prefer to stick to models that have been given the “all clear” in consumer reviews instead of grabbing the hottest new toys. Just like we told you in our scoop back in early May, AT&T has just slashed the 2-year contract price of the BlackBerry Bold to $199.99. What’s more, the Curve 8900 has been cut to $149.99 — the price it was originally going to launch at according to our sources. Previously $299.99 and $199.99 respectively, the Bold shed off a third of its price tag while the newest-kid-on-the-block (to AT&T, anyway) is now ripe for the picking. So what’s it gonna be, people? The brawny Bold or the svelte Curve 8900?

    Well, my cousin owns the Bold through at&t and I own the 8900 through t-mobile. He wishes he had a better camera, I wish I had a bit more size on mine. But I think we’re both really happy with what we’ve both got. I love my 8900, don’t know if I’d trade it in.

    I’ve called both my local store and looked on the website and don’t see this price drop reflected yet… Am I looking in the wrong place?

    I played with the 8900 and to tell you the truth I’ll rather keep my E71. It has better feel and is thinner.

    I purchased an iPhone half way thru May. It was $200 cheaper ($100 cheaper with the 6-8 week mail-in rebate) than the BOLD. I couldn’t stand the thing, so I traded it in for a BOLD two weeks later for a $20 re-stocking fee. They charged my $399 for the BOLD and filled out the rebate form for me.

    I just logged onto BGR and was aghast to find the price reduction. I promptly called the AT&T store I purchased it from and asked for a refund/rebate. They’re giving me a $100 credit to my account. THANKS BOY GENIUS!

    I don;t get it. Was just in an AT&T store in NYC…corporate, not franchise. 2-year or eligible upgrade was $399, a $100 debate and a $50 incentive makes it $249 after I clear my MIR check. Isn’t $199 here…

    @Anthony

    AT&T Bold was $199 after $100 rebate around 1st week of June. AT&T change it back to $299 after $100 rebate this month. Check wirefly for better deal.

    will this sale ever come back?
    i need a new cell and this was an AMAZING price!

    What a joke…AT&T and/or RIM need to wake up and get over themselves. $400 for a phone WITH a 2-year extension? That’s insane. I don’t care how good the reviews are for the Bold, people are gonna go for the iPhone instead.
