Sprint responds to Verizon CEO's comments concerning Palm Pre

General

Following some comments yesterday from Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam, the Internet exploded. The highlight of course was the un-revalation that Verizon would be adding the Palm Pre to it’s portfolio once Sprint’s exclusivity expires. The part that grabbed everyone’s attention was the time frame however: “six months or so.” Could Sprint’s Pre exclusivity really be expiring later this year? According to a Sprint spokesman, no:

We have the Pre through 2009.

Nice — short and to the point. So to clarify McAdam’s comments from yesterday, it looks like Verizon will be offering the Pre once 2010 rolls around in seven months and change. Can you hold out?

Thanks, fresh!

“Provide the direct evidence of your claims or are you just another 2-bit, bigmouth gloryhole who cannot help but overplay his limp-wristed hand?”

Are you serious about that comment?… Are you that thick that you cannot comprehend what you read from these articles?? Here is one for you, yesterday at the D7 Rubinstein made this comment:

“We do love Sprint and they are our exclusive launch partner,” Rubinstein said. “It sounds like AT&T (T) and Verizon both want it. I can’t comment on unannounced relationships.”

If you think Verizon has a contract with Palm regarding the Pre, then you are the epitome of a person with subnormal intelligence.

  • bbkernel

LoL you talking about comprehension, NOOOO!

Is that the extent of your proof? “no comment”, if so you have serious dementia.

Didn’t you use the same quote about 100 times yesterday to try and disprove VZ CEO reports ?

  • Informed

    @bbkernel

“Unannounced relationship”, that means there aren’t any contract negotiations going on between Verizon and Palm. Verizons CEO was disproved, he said “you will see devices LIKE the Pre within 6 months”, he was purely sending a message to the current Verizon customers teetering on the edge of switching to Sprint. All the while knowing Verizon does not have a contract. Depending on whether Sprint extends their contract, Verizon may not have one in the near future. Is that too hard for you to understand?

So basically the last article that said VZW would get the Pre within a month is basically true. We only have 7 months until 2010, and I bet they get the pre a few months before that happens … they just can’t sell until the exclusivity contract ends.

    @informed
From your previous comments in another article, you have absolutely no room in insulting someones intelligence or ask people if something is too hard to understand. You are the one that took was unable to comprehend a simple sentence, turning it around, and insulting everyone who read the sentence correctly. You were then proven the idiot by everyone having to explain to you the meaning of the sentence (That verizon will be getting devices like the Palm Pre, and not a Pre-Like device), then having an update posted proving your ignorance. Verizon IS getting the Pre. Their exclusivity ends at the end of the year. I seriously doubt Palm will extend the contract with only Sprint if the big carriers are interested in the device. Both Palm and Sprint are hemorrhaging. It is in Palms best interest to go with Verizon.

You are a moron! Do you have a clue?! You don’t need to have a “contract” to talk! Man where are you from?

How was VZ CEO disproved? Oh that’s right because Rubenstein said “no comment”! LoL! Also, stop making shit up! He didn’t say devices like the Pre! He said Palm Pre!

VZ and Sprint have had a relationship for years, before the Pre fool. You act as if the Pre is the first Palm phone! VZ has a Palm phone just in case you didn’t know.

Apple negotiated with VZ before AT&T, for the iPhone! That was unannounced! It was months later Apple admitted they went to VZ first, before seeking AT&T.

If VZ customers want to jump ship to Sprint for the Pre then more power to them. I personally like Nextel phones, (which is the real Sprint network) I use one every day for my business. But my personal phone is a BB curve from VZ. I did the iPhone thing for a year and couldn’t stand all the drop calls. I personally feel it was the iPhone software (pre 2.0)

Even if people left for VZ for the Pre. VZ will still be the largest carrier.

Yesterday at the D7, Rubinstein said Rimm and Apple were the direct competitors, why would Palm give those carriers that have competing devices the Palm Pre? It’s not worth the risk. You guys are doing nothing but trying to personally attack me, but you fail to dispute the facts. Here is one fact, Verizons CEO said, “you will see devices like the Pre WITHIN 6 MONTHS”, that was a lie. Sprints has the contract until at least Jan 2010. At which Sprint can easily extend it. More and more people are realizing Verizons CEO made those comments to try and undermine Sprint.

  • Sam

Spoken like a true fanboy. Anyone who pays Verizon ridiculous and overpriced rates is a sucker and your throwing away money.

  • bbkernel

    Oh boy.

This is crazy, my head is ready to blow. I’ll help you instead of fight with you.

First, Palm would be the dumbest wireless company or yet just company, in history if they allowed themselves to be limited to the 3rd largest wireless carrier in the US. Sharholders would ask for Hesse’s head! It’s not like Apple where their shareholders are willing to let Jobs do pretty much whatever he wants. Sprint isn’t even close to being that type of company. They can be if they play there cards right.

It’s only LOGICAL that they put the Pre on the big two, VZ and ATT.

Second, competing devices are already on Sprints network. So I don’t see why Palm would care about competing devices on someone else’s network. What Palm should care about is reaching as many customers as possible and there is only one way to do that. Apple echo these thoughts when they tap into VZ’s 86 million customers and that’s only the wireless side. You’d be dumb not to try and tap into that!

Third, contract to thru “2009″ as reported here at BGR. It’s May 30th. You do the math. So VZ’s CEO was a few days off, LIKE 3 days! LOL! You might call that an exaggeration but lie? Hmm… don’t think so.

Lastly, Sprint I’m sorry, but they will not get an exclusivity extension for the reasons stated above. The same way ATT will not get one with Apple. Undermining is part of the game, VZ, ATT and Sprint are all guilty of this. But for some reason everyone likes to believe VZ is the evil empire and they are the only ones undermining they others.

    informed, peace!

Haha Sprint just kicked Verizon in the balls! Fuck Verizon for trying to steal sprints Shit! Shame on you big red!! Verizon has become very ambitious!!

  • e

    Glad somebody did da math..lol

FACT: Verizon Wireless’ Lowell McAdam told Reuters “over the next six months or so you will see devices like Palm Pre [sic] and a second generation Storm”

In the context it was used, “devices like Palm Pre” means “devices such as Palm Pre” which fully and completely contradicts ‘Informed’s uninformed misinformation.

FACT: Sprint’s statement on this matter what very measured and explicit: “We have the Pre through 2009″ which is, coincidentally “6 months or so”.1

There needs to be a monitor to remove some of the posts above that are riddled with foul language. After all, prepubescent fanboys (and girls)may be reading!

I absolutely love my Treo 755p, which I got through Verizon Wireless as soon as it was released by them. As with the Pre, Sprint had it for an initial exclusive period of roughly six months. Blackberry users watch with envy as I switch freely between the touchscreen and keyboard.

I hope the Pre, with its new OS, will accommodate the applications I currently have on my Treo. I’m also aware of VW’s propensity to disable features in its handsets, then charge for giving them back. Hopefully, they will recognize the competition in the marketplace before they try to do this in the case of the Pre.

  • PCa

From the way Verizon is commenting it is clear they have a contract with Palm for Pre. Most probably for Jan 1, but simply cannot officially announce it yet.

  • Don Louie Cantone

I got from it they will “devices like Pre” and they want the Pre, Sprint just wanted to clarify you until the end of the year before the slower (ATT) crippled (Verizon) versions

  • Cedric

“Devices, like Pre” in means, in English, Pre.

There is no reason to think the Verizon or ATT versions will be “crippled.” In fact Sprint will require you buy plans that have GPS Sprint navigation required, so GPS crippling is moot. And Sprint killed tethering on Pre so that is moot as well.

I would prefer Sprint for Windows Mobile, but the Sprint Pre is already effectively “pre crippled” in the way that Verizon cripples its phones.

  • Don Louie Cantone

There was no comma in the comment and a plan isn’t the crippling meant, cutting RAM and locking GPS so you have to pay thier fees is what I was refering to. The crippling only applies to vzw as the previous post states, whatever plan you get with either carrier would cost the same as Sprint’s w/o nav. I do see how that added value can throw you for a loop, thereby crippling the phone. That last part was sarcasm

  • backbeat

    @Cedric

You’re a dumb fuck. All the major carriers are requiring smartphone plans for smartphones. Sprint just includes more in their plan than anyone else.

  • Don Louie Cantone

Cedric, care to elaborate on how vzw is devices like Pre now that Hesse cleared red’s foot from thier mouth?
