Apple beefs up white MacBook, launches back to school iPod promo

Retail

As college students across the country try to recover from the 2008/2009 school year, Apple has just kicked off its back to school promotion for the coming year. The deal is nothing new — buy a Mac, get an iPod for free — but it’s pretty sweet nonetheless. Here’s how it boils down: College students and college/K-12 faculty who purchase a qualifying Mac (excludes refurbished computers and Mac minis) will receive:

  • $229 rebate on an iPod touch
  • $229 rebate on an iPod classic
  • $199 rebate on an iPod nano 16GB
  • $149 rebate on an iPod nano 8GB
  • $79 rebate on an iPod shuffle

As far as snagging a Mac on a college student’s budget, the white MacBook is still your best bet of course. Coincidentally, the little MacBook that could is the recipient of a nice little spec upgrade as of this morning. Notables include a 2.13GHz processor instead of 2.0GHz, a 160GB HDD instead of 120GB and 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM instead of 667MHz RAM. Pricing is still the same — can’t hate that.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

So glad I’ve not been in school for a while… These “back to school” promos in *May* would just kill my entire summer.

way to be Apple…have a promotion when Summer term is starting, or right as high school seniors are getting out of school and won’t be computer shopping for the next couple of months. Fantastic!

Also the white macbook white is only $949 when you get it in the education store.

  • neil

They do this every year and make the promo for the better part of the summer so you have a long time to buy and clear out their ipod stock before the refresh it in the fall.. Coincidentally a short time after the promo ends.

  • mo

    Oh yeah Zune HD forever!!

  • Tyrone D.

Apple’s student discounts have always been and will remain a joke to me. And oh yeah! Apple, please jack up the prices for recent high school grads and college students looking to go back to school – they love to rack that on, on top of their student loans.

Let’s fist pound the students during a credit crunch FTW!

Ahem @ Alen above? You’re mama!

  • brujogarza

  • brujogarza

@Tyrone D, Welcome to life, it is very difficult.

  • brujogarza

Wow, I thought my generation whined a lot! most people in their 30′s still whine, and you must be their younger brothers and sisters.

  • rederikus

CrApple Macs are sooooo overpriced that Crapple can GIVE AWAY an iPod with them.

  • Andy

is it me or does that ipod touch seem a little funny? 3rd gen perhaps??? the spaces inbetween the screen and edges seem wayy smaller…

  • bo7e1se

ya fuck apple… they’re such assholes for giving away ipods.. keep bitching

  • Blackberry Bold

    No thank you!
None of these macs will have Snow leopard included. Snow leopard is the next OS software that will cost money for existing Leopard users.
I know apple will charge around 100-130 dollars for this upgrade. No way, I am buying apple mac book until snow leopard comes out.

  • Bryan

This promotion usually just means that Apple is gearing up to release a new version of whatever they’re giving away. That makes sense with the rumors of an iPod Touch and iPod Nano revamp sometime in July.

Hey lame-o – MSFT gets bashed for good reason – they SUCK! And to the other lame-o’s posting here, macs are NOT overpriced when you factor in reliability, usability, functionality, stability, support, customer satisfaction, awesome bundled software, etc. etc. etc. so take a hike back to your little worlds…
