If it does have a GSM radio, I could see this being offered at a subsidized price and a discount fee for data only use. Kind of like the netbooks with onboard 3g, or the Peak email device.

Since when is apple in to this market? iphone a net book?? you gotta be kiddin me. That device has no possibilities at all. With maemo, you can even attach your USB flashdrive. Show that in your iphone.

Looks great, Meamo will rock with that cpu and flash 9. Shame about the screen size but hey…

Full data support without being true phone means all the iphone kiddys wont buy one, it will be quite exclusive. Plus i can walk into the Nokia store and buy one without selling my soul.

So long as they keep the phone out of it, this is destined to fail. I’d get one if I could put my GSM chip in it.

My N95 sucks as a “computer” when I’m on the road. I’d love to get this N900 if I could make and receive calls on it. I won’t take my GSM chip out of my phone to use it in this thing if that meant that no one could call me while I was using the tablet. I’m also not going to get two phone # and two data plan when I’m already on a 6 GB data plan for tethering.

Get your head out of the ground, Nokia, and put in a phone. Then there’s a good change this might succeed. Since this tablet is much bigger than you’re average handset, it puts it in a different league. Are you afraid it might cannibalize your handset sales? Right, I suppose the risk of the entire product failing is better than cannibalizing the sales.

I do application support for Unix system and it means being on call for clients. I don’t want to be restricted in my home when I’m suppose to be available for emergencies. I know many people in my field are in the same position. If I get a call while being at a beach with my friends, being able to just fire up VPN and a shell on this tablet would mean love.

I have owned the N700, N800 and now the N810. Nokia has lost me on this one. The screen on the other devices were a bit too small. To go with a smaller screen makes no sense. I guess I will be looking at the LG XNote when it comes out. The “perfect” screen size would be between 5 and 6 inches.

yes, bluetooth, it tethers, thats how i use my nokia n800 tablet in the field. works with even cheap cell plans, and when there’s wifi, you’ve got some speed. as for the wimax et al, depending on how you get it, it could be a good idea.

its an extremely convenient, useful device. it takes the place of 5 other gadgets i would be carrying otherwise.

I love tablets personally. For some peoplre the plan that comes along with a smartphone is too much. I get a tablet, which is free to use.

And in an age of expanding wifi, you can use it near everywhere.

FYI I typed this on my Nokia N810.

This is by far the best. very powerful processor. It’s a phone and a small PC with mozilla browser! Linux OS is debian based which means it opens up the door to almost all linux applications! Plus the API is compatible with windows and mac which opens up more doors to different applications!!!!!

What makes me weep is the reduction in screen size.

I’ve used the n810 and it is in fact a computer. When I didn’t like an app I just found another app and installed it. I could choose from about 5 different audio players, 3 PDF viewers, and so on.

But I really felt the 4″ screen on the n810 was already too small to read anything comfortably. Making it even smaller was probably necessary since they are positioning this as a phone. But what I wouldn’t give to have all this power and a 6″ screen!

Hey guess I never used one of these high tech phones of nokia but would love to just try one of these like the n900 n95 n97 or the n800…but by reading all these reviews and comments im having doughts about nokia…I use to like them and all but dam it looks like they realy suck…I also love to download apps and chat on phone and surfe the web….im currently using a sidekick lx on t-mobile and its amazing…but the only down side is I got the 07 edition of lx and its not 3g or plays videos online or any of the good stuffs…so can any one give me an advice on which phone to get…and just to add more to my fav things to do I also love to make calls on skype and yahoo……. thnx

Actually fellow bloggers it is a smartphone its rumored to be for the big magenta box by fall if we get it I may give up my sidekick. MAY. That’s a big may I love the operating system on the device love the fact it out apps android market well honestly the number of apps are the same but id rather have this than any android phone

Its good to see Nokia finally release a new breed of their communicator series, I just hope it won’t turn out to be another “average” phone.

I have been the proud owner of the N900 for nearly a month now. I also own an HTC Magic and think the N900 is a far superior phone. I am a Linux user (Linux Mint and Sabayon) on my computers and love how open this phone is.

I am still playing with the phone and learning but am getting to grips with it. I have added the testing repo which has opened up a lot more to play with.

Look forward to chatting to all the other N900 users at http://www.NokiaN900Forum.net this really does feel like an enthusiasts phone, not just another run of the mill handset.
