More good news for Rogers customers: upcoming handset release details

Exclusive

When it rain in Canada, it pours in Canada. Our ninja just came back with news about a few more handsets making their way to Rogers in the near future. Some we already know about and some we’ve been waiting for all too long, but there are definitely a few tasty morsels in there. Oh hi, preliminary iPhone launch details… Hit the jump for the skinny.

  • LG Rumor 2 (Solo Mobile) — ETA: May 25th, outright: $160.00, 2-year contract: $75.00
  • Sony Ericsson C905 — ETA: May 19th (delayed), outright: $449.99, 3-year contract: $249.99 ($299.99 without Rogers Vision)
  • HTC Dream — ETA: June 2nd (limited quantity, availability will increase by June 12th), outright: $649.99, 3-year contract: $199.99
  • HTC Magic — ETA: June 2nd, outright: $649.99, 3-year contract: $199.99
  • Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 — ETA: June 30th (barring additional delays), outright: TBD ($649 – $749), 3-year: $299.99 (will launch at $249.99)
  • iPhone — ETA: unknown (July/August), outright: not allowed, 3-year: TBD

Of note, Rogers will launch the new iPhone on the same day that it lifts off here in the US. Purchases will be limited to one iPhone per customer on opening day and there will be active demos on display in stores. Also of note, Rogers expects to have substantially more iPhones on hand this time around so as not to run into the same stock issues as with the iPhone 3G launch. Excited?

Thanks, G!

i’ve heard from those that think they are in the know at rogers that the storm 2 is being released specifically for rogers with wi-fi this time in aproximately september

I have my doubts about Rogers ever seeing a Storm. But that is just my feeling.

I’m pretty excited to see the new iPhone. Last year I jumped on the 3G bandwagon but never bought one because I just couldnt justify the cost. This year I can justify the cost, so if the new iPhone is to my liking I will pick one up. Otherwise it is probably Palm Pre for me.

why is the LG phone there…its on Solo Mobile (CDMA) which is owned by Bell…..???????

Rogers better be letting current iPhone 3G ‘users’ to do the HUP!!!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Apple want everyone to be able to upgrade to the new iPhones each year. So I’m hoping that Apple forces Rogers to allow HUPs at 12 months.

@phoenix: It’s likely they will, but you’ll need to extend your contract for three years from the date you upgrade. So if you’ve got 2 years left on your contract, you’ll reset back to 3 years.

Still, I’ll likely do it. An improved camera, video recording, 32GB, compass and faster processor will all make it worth the upgrade cost to me.

No reason that Rogers can’t get these phones that everyone seems to think are CDMA/EVDO only. There are GSM versions of all these phones produced, which is why they can be sold in the rest of the world which doesn’t use CDMA (the majority of it.)

hi I work closely with rogers wireless I can assure you this Website is full of it it’s false speculations they take one info and add bunch of lies on top of it u could google it there is no new iPhone coming only the os is updated to 3.0 it’s a free upgrade for all owners of the current iPhone.

Ok, what about the HTC Touch Pro 2/Diamond 2? Are these phones coming to Rogers anytime soon?

  • Neuromancer

Ger. I don’t know if the Touch Diamond 2 or Pro 2 are coming to Rogers, but you can already purchase the Diamond 2 on Craig’s List. At least here in Vancouver you can. I don’t know where you’re located, but if you want the Diamond 2 then it may be worth checking out Craig’s List and see if it’s on there in your area. It’s going for $649 here.

As for the Pro 2, i couldn’t tell ya. I do know the release date for it is coming up fairly soon though. Exactly when i don’t know.

I have the original Touch Diamond myself, don’t like it too much, but the Diamond 2 and Pro 2 look like they’re much more improved and more touch friendly.

All phones are designed for GSM networks (87% of the world uses GSM) first and then adapted for those straggling CDMA (13% of the world) networks.

Blackberry was given an incentive to release the Storm for CDMA carriers (Bell,Telus.. Bellus? et al) first. It was rushed out and not tested as it should have been on a large marketshare, so it was crap… Hence the negative reviews for the Storm.

  • X1Zero

The Dream is $149.99 on 3 year, not $199.99.
