ZuneHD get its game on and gets some additional details?

Gaming

Teamxbox has let loose with a slew of details on the rumored Zune HD, some of which they have reportedly been sitting on since last August. According to their sources, the ZuneHD will be a convergent device, incorporating some of the gaming features of the Xbox and the multimedia features of the Zune. Codenamed xYz to highlight its position between the Xbox and the Zune, the new device is rumored to have a large WVGA touchscreen display and “hardware features not found on any handheld on the market.” The Zune HD will most definitely not be a phone and will not directly compete with Microsoft’s Windows Mobile offerings, it has been said. The portable entertainment device will supposedly feature the graphical user interface of the New Xbox Experience and will be a “Live Anywhere” device, integrating the online services offered by Microsoft Live, Xbox, Zune and the recently announced Sky marketplace. Interestingly enough, teamxbox claim that their sources on the ZuneHD hardware coincide with the recently leaked “chassis 1″ specification which include an ARM 6+ processor, Open GL ES 2.0 graphics HW (can we say Nvidia Tegra), 256MB plus of RAM, min of 1GB internal memory, 3.5″+ WVGA or FWVGA touchscreen display with multi-touch, aGPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and more. If this conglomerate of recent rumors hold true, then the ZuneHD may turn the PMP world upside down if and when it launches.

    First…

Let’s just hope it doesn’t run on a Microsoft OS.

Sounds good, but I was really hoping for a phone.

    1Gb internal memory?

    NXE = Garbarge!
Should have used the blade interface, i think that would be pretty sweet on a touch screen. I have a funny feeling we will hear a bit about this at E3 this year.

I’ve never had an ipod or a Zune…I’d rather just have my phone. I’m currently waiting for the touch pro 2. If this blows my mind enough…I might consider it. Xbox games sounds cool…but it needs some sort of good apps. Calendar, maybe email, etc etc. With the productivity apps, Microsoft might as well turn the Zune into a new brand of tiolet paper.

    I meant Without.

I’m confused on the features this say, compared to the last set of features you all said. Is this supposed to be a computer, mp3 player, or a phone, cause i’m highly confused.

With all these features whats this thing gonna cost?

  • Spennie5

I love all the features, especially the Live integration and all the “nifty” things this will supposedly do, but the only thing that I’m skeptical about it the hard drive space. The iPod touch’s have 8gb and 16gb? I’ve filled up about 2/3 of my 80gb zune, and that’s without videos, games or pictures. How nice would it be to just link your computer to the device and access any live games or media over WiFi or WiMax? It would destroy the battery, but you could have a smaller drive for storing some songs and updates.

looks sexy! i kinda want it

hm… i think it’d be cool to be able to jump on live from anywhere, but i wonder if this is the best device to do so on. and for that matter, i wonder how much it costs to do so. i just don’t think it’d be worth it.

Combine this article with this one http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/12/microsoft-pink-specs-leak-out-tegra-snapdragon-omap-3-oh-m/

And you have your new WinMo device.

  • question

Question, it says it had aGPS, i thought only phones had that, might be a typo? I am just asking b/c i’m not sure, not to be grammar police.

Hmm I wonder if the Bluetooth will include the DUN profile so you could tether with a phone if you so desired. I used to do that back in the day when they made Pocket PC devices without phones integrated in them. Sadly those devices (circa 2002 or 2003) don’t differ all that much from the Windows Mobile phones of today when it comes to the OS and user interface.

So what more competition for portable gaming? Is there room with the psp and dsi?

I already gave away my Zune to my girl so I’m coppin’ this soon as it drops. I’m excited even more.

  • PHug

Way to mess up a potential winner.
    No phone no sale

why does every one insist on having a phone with mp3 player? I don’t get it. Maybe I’m old school-ish, but I prefer my electronics to be separate.
Aside from a couple of ringtones I created, my Blackberry is empty of music files.
The camera on my phone only has a couple of pics of my cat and a cannibal slug I found outside, otherwise, my digital camera has all the pics I take.
My Zune is my Zune. I have thousands of songs and hours of video on it and it still doesn’t have one scratch on it. And that’s the way I like it.
I do like this Zune HD though. I’ll highly be considering this one for xmas, if it’s out by then. And as for games on it, so long as I can get Tetris on it, I don’t care for it to be able to make a phone call.
