Android 1.5 (Cupcake) official rollout date leaked

General

We’ve been teased and we’ve waited and waited for this, and now it’s finally here. After several false alarms, it looks like the big update to Android is officially coming our way. We knew it was coming sooner than later when it became available for dev phones a few weeks back. Late last month, some lucky users had the OS upgrade pushed to their devices, but now it will be available for everyone. During the week of May 11th T-Mobile will start rolling out Android 1.5 via an over-the-air update. Not everyone will receive it right away as the rollout will be done in phases, but everyone should have his or her handsets upgraded by the end of May. This took long enough, right? Larger images after the break.

I got it yesterday. Did anyone notice the battery lasting a bit longer?

I’m with T-Mo and have been waiting for Cupcake. As soon as jail breaking, rooting and cupcake became available on YouTube, I installed it.

I am very happy with it. The new features are great.

And having a rooted phone means I will get all the great features and add-ons that the brilliant independent minds come up with.

That’s better than waiting for T-Mo to come out with updates every 9 months. LOL.

Here is a link to one of my videos I made and uploaded from my G1, yes, I said FROM my G1.

I have links and info on jail breaking your G1 and updating to Cupcake manually.

Tip: Install the JesusFreke version of cupcake. It smokes.

That looks like an official announcement from T-Mo. How is that a leak when they are saying May 11 people will be getting the OTA notice?

If this announcement surfaced (without authorization) in April or earlier, that would be a leak.

    Just wondering.

“Now if your G1 is unlocked but not rooted and you are not on T-Mobile you will not get the OTA Update.”

This is not true. I am using an O2 PAYG sim in an unlocked G1 and I got the update some time ago (~2 weeks)
