AT&T to launch BlackBerry Curve 8900 on May 25th; Bold price drop to follow

Exclusive

Well it looks like AT&T may be preparing to launch the BlackBerry Curve 8900 a bit sooner than we expected. Earlier this week we reported our latest intel which placed AT&T’s Curve 8900 on store shelves some time in June. AT&T followed up the next day and finally made the handset official, but provided very little in terms of a release date. It looks like things might be going down somewhat sooner than expected as a tipster reports the Curve 8900 will drop on May 25th. Pricing is said to be set at $149.99 though it is still unclear whether or not any rebates will be involved. Following the release of the 8900, our tipster also suggests AT&T will be dropping the price of a new Bold on June 1st from $299.99 to $199.99 on contract. $150 Curve 8900s, $200 Bolds… AT&T is apparently looking to move some serious BlackBerry volume this Summer.

nice! you might want to go in today. there is an unpublished friends and family event for just today. mention it to them and you should be able to get another $50 off. that brings it to 150.

u don’t need some kind of ticket/coupon that says you actually have a friend or family working for AT&T….know anyone’s first/last name that works at the AT&T store on 51st? i’m going midtown or soho depending on my day and i’d rather say someone from a different store lol.

just picked mine up at the new discounted price, plus the $50 friends and family rebate. Try the name Victoria Suarez – sales consultant at the 51st and Park location. they tried to give me some bs about having to spend the $100 rebate on in-store accessories, but quickly backed off.

If you think BB are so 80″s, then you must be really old. A BB does way more than an iphone and every other phone out there. Get a clue. Everyone I know, at least all the smart people have BB’s. Do some research before you just comment out of your @$$.

Before you get your panties all wet over ATT getting the Curve 8900 you need to know something. The 8900′s big feature is WiFi. WiFi will enable data transmission AND VOICE over a WiFi network even when there is no cell signal available. BUT…the network must support UMA in order to enable VOICE over WiFi. Unless ATT has changed their position, they will NOT allow voice service over WiFi, presumably because the ATT net doesn’t support UMA. Obviously, if you can do voice over WiFi, you end up with unlimited voice minutes just by paying the $25/mo blackberry data pkg charge. THE ONLY CARRIER CURRENTLY SUPPORTING VOICE OVER WIFI IS T-MOBILE.
