It's E71x time, kids!

Mmm mmm do we ever love it when carriers pick up awesome handsets at awesome prices. Today, after a mind boggling number of delays, AT&T begun selling the Nokia E71x on its website for the incredibly attractive price of $99 on a two-year contract. And while the notion of using a phone that was announced in the summer of 2008 might be unthinkable to some who are accustomed to the very latest in tech, we find it pretty hard to argue against a full-QWERTY S60 device with a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, aGPS, Bluetooth 2.0 and HSDPA connectivity, especially when the device in question is Kate Moss thin at 10mm.

Evilhomer- I am buying the fucking unlocked version, sir. Furthermore, I think the experience with the AT&T staff represents the same core problem with what’s happened to the Nokia/AT&T relationship. It’s not that they’re against me, it’s that they’re against educated, informed Nokia consumers. I think that’s apparent, and I think you missed the point all together. I’ll grow a pair when you grow a brain cell.

For right now, just stop reading posts that say ‘PseudoFinn’ at the top if you have such a problem with me.

Whoa- in retrospect, my response was a bit overly harsh. Mob mentality of BGR I guess. ;-)

E71x does not have front camera like E71, apart from what is being discussed.

I feel NOKIA etc are on a short lease from carriers – they dare cut into sales of NOKIa handsets subsidises thru the carrier by sending unlokced fully realised / fully US compatible smartphones here and I also feel the FCC would hassle approval of any such handsets that are a threat to the US carriers protected market. BTW-
A new E62 was my best choice over E71 – especially over E71x no matter good upfront price. I used E61 with mixed results – software issues primarily. It is not ideal, but E63 gets most of it right, at a good price. I do not have a data plan on ATT so I e mail/web/message sparingly; save that for home broadband plus 15% govt employee related bill discount keep my montly bill really low. Anyway someone should investigage carriers and FCC.

I now have an AT&T E71x in my hands. I must say there are several things I’m not happy with. First hardware, they dropped the QVGA camera on the front of the phone. Second, it comes loaded with trial ware. Worst yet, you can’t uninstall the trial ware. Third, the E71 apparently comes with an application called switch that allows you to transfer your old phone data to your new phone. For some reason the E71x doesn’t have this application. Worse yet, my old E62 has Data Transfer in it which seems to work just like Switch does in the new E71. However the E71x refused to install Data transfer from my E62. Fourth, many applications are refusing to install on the E71x. Because I don’t want to pay for a data plan, I wanted to install Nokia maps on the so I could install all the maps I wanted on the phone. Problem is that it refuses to install.
I think that AT&T has blocked stuff, going their best to lock you in on their nickel and dime applications.
Simple applications are missing. Notepad. I use that regularly.

    Hello,
I just went round and round with AT & T about their Data Plan another 30 bucks. I want the E71x Nokia, Refurbished they offer free with a renewed 2 year contract, do I really need the Data Plan? At least two reveiws of the phone said it was not needed with the WIFI. What do I loose without the plan. How can I get AT & T to give me the phone with out the data plan …or should I look for another carrier…Old man needs help!
