Amazon press event on Wednesday, big Kindle announcement imminent

General

Amazon will be hosting yet another press event, this one slated for Wednesday May 6th at 10:30AM ET. In the recent past of course, Amazon press events mean one thing — a Kindle announcement. Ironically, this latest event will be held at Pace University, the historical location of the the New York Times 19th century headquarters and the same company rumored to be working with Amazon on a “big-screen” Kindle designed for newspapers and magazines. We place this rumor in the “highly likely to happen” category and look forward to unveiling Amazon’s latest Kindle offering.

I just wish it weren’t so flipping expensive, even if they had a toned down one for college kids like me who can’t afford a $400 luxury and still eat for the next 4 months.

Doesn’t amazon know this isn’t how you do it. They’re supposed to wait a year, then slowly starting releasing info, and then bam announce the new Kindle 3 with a bigger screen, better battery, and more memory. I mean that’s how Apple does and look where there at.

But in all seriousness, is this a really good idea. They just released the new Kindle and now they have a new one? I don’t know, seems weird.

I mean REALLY.. why would anyone want this. It’s a gimmick that looks clunky and big. I dont’ see any advantage in this over a book, laptop or phone. The screen quality looks like something on a toy.

It does make since to me, because the kindle 2 is for books(for the most part) A new kindle for newspapers and magazines that is in color would be cool. Kindle one, and two are in black and white. With paper content going down each day a kindle for this content would work. The price is two high on these. They need to do more than the kindle 2 to keep up with what apple will be out with later this year.

Sigh asks “is this a really good idea. They just released the new Kindle and now they have a new one?”

The Kindle 2 and Kindle DX are two different devices with different features targetted at different markets.

The answer to your question depends on how much overlap in the markets there is.

That’s cool. When they come with a large color screen, the next thing I want is travel guides and maps available on it! That would make a traveler’s life so much lighter!
