HTC Magic coming to T-Mobile as MyTouch 3G?

Rumor

As T-Moble customers continue to get excited over the coming lineup additions, this leaked screenshot of the T-Mobile inventory system is certainly cause for celebration. First, an HTC “MYTOUCH 3G” is apparently on its way; remember, “MyTouch 3G” was one of the options in a T-Mobile survey seeking a name for the upcoming HTC Magic, which is hitting overseas carriers very soon. It’s pretty exciting news for those who are getting bored or becoming disenfranchised with their G1s. Maybe. The new Android handset looks like it will be available in three color choices this time around: black, white and merlot (mmm, classy). Another item of note in this screenshot is the HTC Touch Pro2 mention. It seems like a lot of big things are lined up for T-Mobile this year, but we’ll have to wait for a price point on the Pro2 before we get all worked up over it. So, T-Moblers, which handset are you more amped for — Touch Pro2 or the Magic, err, MyTouch 3G?

This is obviously a lie, or different in england, the T-Mobile shops in newcastle have large stickers in the windows advertising the HTC Magic…

Is anybody else tired of these “My” and “I” names? My know I am.

Actually, its interesting that such a small carrier (30 mill) with a 3G network still in its infancy, (covers less places then ATT, that tells you something…) Has good devices coming their way. I’m surprised.

I think the whole thing is odd.

The phone we were pretty sure would be the G2 in the states is now the mytouch 3g, the phone we thought would be the wing 2 is now just going to be the touch pro 2, and the sidekick slide (which I thought was dead) is coming back in two colors to sit alongside the new LX?

The name “G2″ was never set in stone, most people assumed it would be called a G2 in sequential order following the G1.

And this is an inventory screenshot you’re looking at, the Sidekick Slide (in it’s original 2 colors) is still in the inventory, it’s not “coming back in two colors to sit alongside the LX”.

Tocuh Pro2 running on Android would be really interesting… mmm…

I bet they’re not calling it the G2 because some marketing person thought that sounded too much like 2G. They probably figured an average consumer would get confused and associate 2G with “old”, and assume it was “behind” the iPhone 3G.

Or maybe they were afraid that Gatorade would sue them (they have a drink called G2).

teh Q700 Slide was the model number for the original Sidekick Slide (The purple 1!). It eventually was released in a Scarlet version. there must be some left over inventory.

It was never going to be the G2 (the G2 is going to be another device down the line). And why call a device (that is so much like the G1, just minus the phsyical keyboard and a little bit of a better camera) something that sounds like an upgrade when there’s nothing to upgrade. I’m pretty positive (also according to T-Mobile USA’s Product and Development team) that the Huaweii device will be the next “G” series of Android phones…

  • Sigh

Ok again, why are we so interested in this? Its basically the G1 without a keyboard. You guys are acting as if this was the sequel to the the G1, which it is not. Do people really hate the keyboard that bad that they can’t wait till this comes out? I rather wait for the real G2 (that includes a keyboard) to come out.

  • wally

G1 buyers from right before Christmas should be pumped about this one! Tards still didn’t put a 3.5 jack on it and why oh why the T-mobile?

  • atonic

@Sigh There will not be another T-Mobile android device with a physical keyboard at least this year… and I doubt at all. Also, there will not be a Android device ever called the G2.

  • Ashley

I really can’t wait for this phone to come out!!

  • Sasquatch

For the record, the name G2 cannot be used because Gatorade already has a product called that and has trademarked the name.

I have a G1 and really like it, especially with a larger battery now. But I am not sure I’ll like a phone with only a virtual keyboard on the screen. I guess with the 1.5 upgrade coming soon I’ll get to try both types before deciding if I can do without the tactile keyboard.

This is an actual screen shot of the inventory which hold new devices, present devices as well as past devices that have launched in the past. Like many people are saying, the Mytouch 3G isn’t going to be called the G2 because Gatorade already trademarked that name with the G2 drink. Soo for the last time, there will not be a G2 now or in the future. It will be called something else. The Touch Pro 2 is a replacement to the Wing. Doesn’t mean that it is going to be called the Wing 2.

    @ joecurve

AT&Craps 3G network may be big… but the speeds suck balls. Coming from AT&CRAP and having an iPhone 3G and a Blackberry Bold. Didn’t anyone hear that New Jersey was sueing AT&CRAP and Apple for false advertising on the 3G speeds on the iPhone and when the Bold was launched all the complaints AT&CRAP was getting about the 3G network? From personal experience i am using a 1700 mhz pda device and using it on T-Mobile’s 3G network, and the speeds are AMAZING!!! i would definetly recommend T-Mobile’s 3G network over AT&CRAP anytime. I can’t wait for the Touch Pro 2 to hit there AWS. That will be the only phone in my pocket!

  • technogeek

For those that would like to say that the 3G network that ATT has is comparible to T-Mobile as far as speeds. This is actually incorrect. If you take the iPhone 3G and the T-Mobile G1 and sit them side by side for data comparsion pulling up the same website, you will notice that there is anywhere between a 5 to 10 second delay. T-Mobile’s 3G network just slams ATT in all aspects for the data connection.

  • Kameron

G2 is a gatorade copyrited trademark hence the new name…
