User reviews go live on Verizon's website

General

It seems that Big Red has finally opened up the user handset review feature we scooped about a month ago. This new feature gives users the ability to rate handsets on a five star scale based on ease of use, display, design, features and battery life. In addition, there is space to list some pros, cons and general comments. The only caveat is that in order to review a handset you must be an existing Verizon customer and logged into your Verizon account — that and actual Verizon employees vet each and every review which pretty much guarantees that fanboys will see their reviews slide right on through while crackpot/troll reviews will never see the light of day.

More corporate censorship, better to read BGR and get the real story

hmmm, probebly not the best forum for customers bitching about the lack of WIFI.
but seriously, its a good idea, customers will vent their issues, so the higher ups will actually see it (if they pretended until now that they dont check blogs…..)

You make it sound like a bad thing, but why would I want to read crack-pot and troll reviews?

  • ….

I put my poor review of the Storm in.

  • Ken

I wonder how much editing and filtering will be done on these reviews?

  • Bdizzah

For some strange reason I feel inclined to say, alot!

  • Evilhomer

That will give the RIM fanboys an excuse to leave Crackberry for five minutes and hit the VZW site.

  • backbeat

^Crackberry.com kiddies won’t leave their playground until there is an adult intercession. ;)

  • Bdizzah

Damn…..why the crackberry hate? I have a berry, I hit up crackberry during my daily web crawls. I also go else where, its just another place to read up on info. What about the iphone fanboys on…..well, every single techblog!!!!!! they’re even on crackberry spewing there nonsense! Either way, I hope that maybe, just maybe VZW will take the feed back and finally update the storm os!

usually people only leave crappy reviews…

  • backbeat

The chronic billboards always in your face, begging you to buy some plastic Made-in-China crap is nauseating after 5 minutes.

They also have no affiliation with RIM so they are constantly running into legal hot water. For good reason.

What did I miss? Flame war already at posting #6?

  • ss

i have a berry. the os is so crappy. memory leaks and then all my messages and calls get erased. cool phones and software RIM, not. verizon’s customer service is terrible too. double whammy. also, berry fanboys sound so old, corporate, and annoying. but every berry’s internet experience sucks. trackballs or ‘click down screen’. lame

  • MushroomStamp

SS obviously has no clue what he is talking about and can only be a Troll

for the sake of staying “on topic” (-per bidzzza)
i herby re-post my earlier one.*************

what do you guys (or whatever gender that scientist might accept in our progressive times) think?

Honestly does anyone want to see reviews from people who have an opinion about a product that they don’t own or haven’t tried?

Apple did it for their app store so that reviews only come from folks who used the app.

Online retailers do it for their sites so that reviews are only from people who bought the product.

Is it too much to ask that those VZW reviews are limited to people who have actually used it?

  • WickedRabbit

Hmm… 2 years later and you still can’t review an iPhone on AT&T site, but can review EVERYTHING else. Wonder why that is? I’m sure that EVERYONE has nothing but 100% positive things to say about the device (sarcasm)… yea, thought so

  • joecurve

^^^ that’s very intersting. With all its shortcomings of the i-phone it still is a rock-solid multimedia device, and has plenty to brag about it. Why don’t they allow reviewes?

  • Nerfman

I LOVE THIS! I just reviewed the Storm and wasn’t too nice about it except for the display and the enhanced broswer. Now we’ll see if VZW publishes it.

  • Evilhomer

The problem with reviewing the Storm on the VZW site is this. If you tried the Storm and returned it, most likely you deactivated the account. So with a deactivated number, you can’t post the review. I didn’t like the Storm but since I cancelled the account, I can’t post a review.

Therefore, most of the reviews are going to be from those who like it enough to continue service on it. Sure, you’ll still have some that kept it and aren’t happy with it (can’t imagine why) and post a negative review, but the MAJORITY are going to be those who kept it and are such big fanboys and ignore or gloss over the problems.

  • DrFooMod2

I wrote a review and the review is under review. SO typical that VZW is reserving editorial rights over user reviews.

  • DarkCobra

If you think the product reviews are overly regulated, you should see their new talk forums. If you even “mention” another electronic blog site they’ll yank your post!

Well, I just left my not-so-nice review of the Storm on there (still have my Storm).

I’m pretty sure it won’t make it through.

When one of the pros is “Doubles as a paper weight,” you pretty much guarantee a censoring.
