Nokia's flagship N97 is Vodafone bound for a July release

Retail

This news makes us so jealous, we toyed with the idea of packing up our bags and moving our entire operation to Jolly Ole’ England. Well, not really, but we’re still green with envy this morning. You see, not only is the HTC Magic going to make its debut next month at no cost to most subscribers, but now Nokia’s upcoming flagship N97 will be hitting Vodafone this July as well. 3.5″ touchscreen display, sliding full-QWERTY keypad, 5 megapixel camera, GPS, Wi-Fi, 32GB of internal memory, 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity, S60 5th Edition — all subsidized from a carrier. The one thing that gives us solace is knowing that our $700+ N97s will be clean as a whistle while our friends across the pond will be sporting handsets with the Vodafone logo plastered all over them. That makes up for it, right?

“we toyed with the idea of packing up our bags and moving our entire operation to Jolly Ole’ England”

    …..England….that’s in Europe….

And this phone would be a lot more remarkable if the QWERTY board had more than just 3 lines of characters. =/

5MP is a lil too outdated for a July release…get with the program NokiA!

  • Jeremiah

5MP is more than decent. Besides, with Nokia imaging, it’s bound to be infinitely better than the Samsung Behold or even the Memoir. I’d definitely go for the N97.

WOW…. This phone is the s**t. I was gonna say i hope it comes to verizon since its on vodaphone but i wouldn’t want verizon to f**k it up with all its restrictions and charge $30 a month for internet access!!! no, a phone of this caliber should never be engulfed by the mediocrity of verizon. (Srry for the graphic language. very furious.)

Keep it in England, you aren’t missing much. Look at the screen shots and you can get an idea of the problem, the screen is way to cluttered. S60 just isn’t meant to be a smart phone OS. And when you feel the build quality it is just a disappointment.

Oh, and HG…why would you want more than 5MP in a camera phone? No matter the sensor’s ability you still have the optics in a cell phone. 5MP is plenty. Better they work on the optics and smaller pixel sizes than some false hope of a higher pixel count (Sony-Ericsson may have larger number, but this will have better pictures). In addition think about when you use the pictures, how many do you think you need for a good 4×6 picture (when printed)?

Stop with the hate. You can customize the screen. Go att upgrade your fucking network so I could use this monster. Lmao @ s60 not meant to be a smartphone os. The nokia e71 have way features than the bold and that other pretty touch screen phone. Posting from my bold btw. Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean its not good.

Kick ass device !! The screen is way better than the iPhone : still 3,5″ but it is 16:9 and the resolution is a lot better !!
    Bye bye haters…

  • bapesta

This will most certainly come out on o2, who never brand their nokia phones, so can’t wait.

    @truthtalker

And you would know anything about the N97 because you have seen it and used it right? No wait, you are just mouthing off.
I have played with the N97 and tried to fix the home screen. It sucks. You can adjust it, but it is too busy. The build quality sucks. The phone just isn’t a good phone.

And S60 isn’t a smartphone OS, it is a good feature phone OS. It is rock solid and can enable a very rich feature phone environment. It just isn’t a smartphone OS. The web browser is bad and you need multitasking to be a good smartphone OS (which is why I think Apple missed the mark on their OS).

Your last comment was that just because I don’t like something doesn’t mean it isn’t good, okay. I don’t like the Bold, but I think it is a good phone for what it does. I don’t like the iPHONE, but it is good at what it does. Just because I don’t like a phone doesn’t mean it is a bad phone, and just because you like the Nokia hype on the phone doesn’t mean it is a good phone either. Wait until you see one live before you judge.
