HTC @ CTIA

General

There’s a reason companies around the world often go to HTC when they need to outsource handsets — they’re without a doubt among the best when it comes to build, form and design. This year at CTIA, the HTC Snap announced this morning was the only new addition the company showed off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take another look at two of the most exciting upcoming handsets currently on deck too, right? Hit the jump and get your gawk on.

First up, a few more shots of the Snap. As you can see, the Inner Circle feature wasn’t live yet on the handset which is a shame because we definitely wanted to check it out. As for the hardware itself, it feels great. The dimensions are ideal for a work horse candybar, the keypad is surprisingly inviting and the handset has that nice rubbery feel a la the HTC Touch.

Next up, the handset we can’t wait to get back at BGR HQ so we can abuse the hell out of it: The Touch Pro2. Just look at it… That sleek case, that giant sliding/pivoting touchscreen, that spacious QWERTY keypad; it’s all good, literally. The Pro2 is a bit of a beast though, but sacrifices must be made in order to stuff all that sexy into one package.

Last but certainly not least is Pro2′s little cousin, the HTC Touch Diamond2. As you well know, it’s basically a Pro2 sans-QWERTY — just like the original Diamond and Pro. Same giant touchscreen, same sexy TouchFLO 3D UI over Windows Mobile and same attention to detail. If a QWERTY isn’t your thing and WinMo doesn’t make you head for the hills, the Diamond2 is definitely a contender to be your next handset. Definitely.

Am I the only one who thinks the HTC Snap looks FUGLY?

  • grr

    no you aren’t

Has Android proved to be as good as everyone thought or were made to think that it would be?

Several people seem to prefer Android to WinMO.

please stop calling phones sexy! wtf!

DOes the TP2 screen go both back like the first tp and up like the tilt? I’m confuse. And how does that work like functionally?

  • chellykay

I’m in love with the Pro2. It’s totally sexy.
    It shall be mine!

  • chellykay

The snap is hideous, I definitely agree. It reminds me of a palm centro. yuck.
I’m a big HTC fan even though I went through six tilts :( I kept hoping I would get one without technical difficulties and I was also holding out to make a warranty claim and get a fuze instead but it didn’t come out in time so I wound up with a Q9 for a bit. It got the job done but Motorola doesn’t understand sexiness!

I was able to play witht he Snap today and I can confirm, it is completely ugly. No way this phone sells much at all.

And really think HTC is good for mechanical design? The G1 was ugly, it sold because it had Android (whether the software was ready or not). The Snap is fugly. The Pro2 looks really nice, until you hold it and realize that it has to much junk in the trunk.

Would love a touch pro 2. However, unitl Winmo supports capacative touch screens, I will be sticking to other platforms. What a shame.

I’m so stoked for the TP2! No joke. But it’s going to be pretty hard to decided between the Dia2 (better cam, way sexy, etc etc) and TP2(qwerty, sexeh, etc etc) should Tmo get them both; though I doubt it. to big a step in the right direeection.

Really pulling for a release date!!Come on!!

  • Ralf

Both would be great handsets, if they last a day. I`m a bit surprised, why BGR does not mention the poor battery performance, since these babies never survive a full working day. It is really a shame, since the new Touch Flo looks promising.

  • JB

Damn the Touch Pro2 is awesome. I just might have to ditch my unlocked iPhone if that baby really does run on T-Mo’s 3G network. And by the way T-Mo, 3G in the D but not Ann Arbor?? That’s horrible… Just horrible…

    @palfrei

I personally love Android. It’s an excellent OS.

However, the hardware of the G1 is lackluster. Besides the keyboard, which is excellent, it is unimpressive. The camera is not great for a 3mp and the design is love/hate.

The excellent OS and average hardware is why I think a lot of people are dying for a nice high end (think 5mp/xenon, etc.) phone running it.

Yeah, I agree with homer. One of the very few times I ever held an HTC device was once at an AT&T store and when I was using my buddy’s G1 and I was in awe. They all seem to have terrible build quality, but then again, this is what I’ve come to expect from over half of Asian handset manufacturers. They always seem to try and scrimp by and use the cheapest materials. But, that’s just personal experience.

  • uccoffee

How can WM without a navigation pad… HD, TD2 & TP2 are just WRONG. ….

  • TB

Is there any news on the release date of the original Touch Diamond on Verizon?
That was expected to get revealed at CTIA. Tomorrow maybe? When is Verizon’s conference with the media?

  • Mike

HOPEFULLY they fixed the frigging lag with these devices..one of the only things that pisses me off about the phone…oh and the internet browser sucks on the TP imo

  • james gagliardi

Well, I’ve dropped my HTC (Sprint) Mogul dozenz of times. On rugs, concrete, pavement, sand, puddles…still kicking strong. only thing that screwed up is the keyboard backlight; only one side lights. but it is a pretty rugged device.
