Samsung lets slip the new Instinct S30

General

A sleeker and more compact version of the Samsung Instinct is coming, so grab your camping gear and find your nearest Sprint retailer. Or not. An official picture of the Instinct S30 — or what many thought to be the Instinct Mini, though it looks like that was just an internal name used on some Sprint documents — has slipped out from Samsung so one would have to imagine that it’ll be hitting stores pretty soon. The original Instinct was relatively solid except for the sometimes-troublesome battery door, so we’re hoping this one will be built like a rock. Of course, when the Instinct first arrived its main competitor was the iPhone, but now it will have to contend with the second and then third generation Jesus-phone as well as Sprint’s own Palm Pre. Sprint will have to be aggressive with marketing this handset, but please… No more cheesy “save-the-day” or “find-a-husband” Instinct commercials.

I think the Instinct series is a nice change of phone.

This one lacks the EVDO A band however and is only EVDO 0, that kinda sucks…

I hope they fix Java Applications, make a REAL usable keyboard for applications (the original took forever and it still sucks), embedded IM clients, and BT stereo for TV/Radio.

Marc – what the hell are you talking about “troublesome battery door” – You played with my Instinct before – that battery door is solid, so solid, its hard to remove, I almost broke the phone trying to remove it. THATS QUALITY RIGHT THERE! I love battery doors that dont fall off easily.

Its mini because of specs and (and I’m guessing) price.

It lacks Rev-A, a good camera, etc so that the other instinct (samsung dash) can one up it.

  • Burgundy

    Wait, wait, wait…

    @ Roger A

I thought this Instinct had rev. A and was going to be a Direct Connect capable device… Then again, maybe I’m friggin losing it too… :)

I bought the first Instict and was completely disapointed. The phone its self is laggy in every aspect of its OS, the Web browser was an absolute joke! (The new one is OK). The keyboard is amongst the worst I have EVER used, physical or touch screen. It’s a shame, Samsung used to be one of my fav’s.

Look’s like samsung found a way to manufacture polished turds this time around…

  • tande04

@burgundy: unless they changed it from when the road map leaked its just rev.0

the other instinct is going to have rev.a and other goodies:

    might get it

This wont cost more than $100 afta a contract but i wana c the Instinct 2 (Dash) cuz thats gona be completely diffrent.

Yea people may only go 2 Sprint for the Pre, but people been goin 2 AT&T for years just because of the Iphone.

  • Roger A

@Burgundy – At first we all “assumed” and it was “leaked” that EVDO A would be on this, since its on the other Instinct platform. It unfortunately is not.

As for Direct Connect, why would it be that? I mean, it would be nice if all new phones had QChat – hardware speaking, is there something missing that prevents QChat DC?

  • james

DAMN just got my instict in september i hope i can trade in for a reduced price =p

  • Burgundy

    @ Roger A

Thanks for the clarification, I must have missed the leak on the Instinct 2. As far as Direct Connect goes, from what I understand, if the phone isn’t rev A capable, then Qchat is out the window. Data speeds are too slow on Rev. O to support it.. At least at the speeds that Nextel customers are used to.

Is the Dash going to be released before the Pre? Because I heard the Pre may be coming out as soon as April 30th…

  • ryan

where is the pre im waiting to hope trade in exchange my treo pro for the palm pre

  • Don Louie

You might want to give up that Pro because the Pre is still an unknown as far as release

  • K

    the iphone is garbage

  • Chris

Does anybody know if the Dash is still coming out? This was the phone that was going to make me come back to sprint!

  • acorn

does this one (s30) allow saving images from the web? camera/photo improvements (crop/enhance/etc)?
