Canada continues to be attacked by low-end QWERTY sliders as the Motorola Hint prepares to land on Bell on April 9

Rumor

Motorola’s Hint QA30 is a device that we aren’t afraid to say that we’re not too fond of. A short, fat QWERTY slider whether open or closed, the Hint just doesn’t feel quite right (in our minds, not our hands) no matter how hard we try. But then perhaps we shouldn’t be slinging too much criticism as low-end QWERTY devices are primarily snapped up by youths who don’t quite have the finances to procure something with a little more kick. It doesn’t have the worst specs with EV-DO Rev. 0, a 2.5″ QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera with video capabilities, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.0 and support for microSD/microSDHC cards of up to 32GB, but it’s certainly no must-have for those who are looking for the next best thing to smartphone. So what is this going to cost the Canadian consumer? Bell has apparently set the pricing for the Hint at $129.95 on a three-year contract and $329.95 off contract which seems to indicate that Bell’s is betting that the Hint will be able to offset some of the damage done to their bottom line by the recent introduction of three low-end QWERTY devices from Rogers, the LG Neon and the Samsung Propel and Gravity.

  • tom

130 bucks on a 3 year? F— this. Plus all that (un)reliable track record.

    No thank you.

the Fugly factor – Don’t get me started

This phone sucks moto needs to make a quality handset, this one has had a lot of issues, randomly turning off, batteries not lasting

  • man_dem

    $129 to compete with rogers $29.95 a.k.a free qwerty’s.
LOL who’s the product mgr @ bell? A 4yr old?

  • Ron

This reminds me of the incredibly ugly VZW Blitz!

I get the need for a full QWERTY but does it have to be ugly as sin?

Look at the XENON or the RUMOR?

I wonder when Motoroa announces their last Phone to come!

That’s a pretty craptastic “dumbphone.” Hooray for Motorola releasing even more waste to the mobile world. As if the Q9C wasn’t enough.

    Canada<<<<

    nobody cares

  • AgBand

    @ Patrick

Apparently someone cares, since this post was written.

Been messing around with one for a while. Honestly the only benefit of having one of these is when its in the ‘closed’ position you can hold it out in front of you and look like a power ranger about to morph. Other than that it really is a paper weight and as craptastic as Richard Ward stated.

    @agband

and the writer is the only one that cares……….

Motorola has lacked imagination since the RAZR. This thing looks like an LG or Samsung rip off. Anyhow, Bell is desperate. They are pathetic to deal with and are willing to offer just anything to ‘attempt’ in staying competitive.

What on earth were they thinking when they left a blank key space on each side of the keyboard when they could have expanded that tiny space button?

Between the touchscreen phenomenon and qwerty madness it looks likethe lower end handset market is trying to cash in on the “higher end” features. In little more than a year, the full qwerty and touchscreen have become common features just like Bluetooth and MMS

i still don’t get three year contracts.

I thought the same thing when I saw the pics, but the Moto rep showed me one at my store today and its actually pretty good. It was easy to type and pretty fast moving through menus. I’ve seen that Korean junk that Rogers has and this is alot better in quality, feel, and features.

Its also gonna be 79.99 on a three-year not 129.99
