Samsung Smooth hitting Verizon Wireless stores, slated to launch April 1st

Exclusive

A couple of our VZW ninjas sent along the contents of a memo setting an April 1st release date for the upcoming Samsung Smooth U-350, successor to the current U-340. This entry-level handset will feature a 128×160 65K color TFT display, 1xRTT support, VGA camera, Bluetooth, GPS and support for a suite of VZW-centric services like Chaperone, VZ Navigator, Mobile Email and Mobile Web. The phone is reportedly arriving in some stores now so if you really want this blue-gray clam shell, you may be able to sweet talk your way into getting one early. In terms of pricing you’re looking at either $30 with a 2-year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate, though we’re told it may end up being $50 after rebate through some channels. Hit the jump for a full rundown of the specifications and few more close-ups of this little handset that could.

Thanks, VZWNinja and anonymous!

S’ok for a basic little phone with no frills. Not everyone needs a smartphone after all.

  • Jamie

Seriously, what is the point in making an entire post about a flip phone that no one will care about?

  • Roger A

This must be the ugly side of phone.. Cause all the smooth is gah-ross!

  • Eric

Didn’t AT&T already sel this phone as the A437? They look the exact same.

  • backbeat

Just because Engadget and Gizmodo do it, is it -really- necessary to provide coverage just for coverage-sake when it comes to ‘news’ like this? Don’t tell me that BGR is going down the road commonly traveled …

  • http://www.SmartphoneNation.com Justin Cauchon

    Phone looks real smooth… *cough*

  • http://bitflung.blogspot.com bitflung

how is this different than every phone produced between 2001 and 2004?

  • Mike M.

And i’m supposed to care about this because…… ? lol I agree with backbeat.

P.S. you guys love the word ninja. I can just imagine a bunch of you guys at your office typing up news in ninja suits lol.

  • Bryan S

I smell a buy one get four FREE. Really, it looks a free kids phone for a family plan…

  • Roger A

    Bryan S – Much agreed.

And to those who mentioned Ninja suits, I can totally confirm, at least one BGR writer totally is Ninjaesque and swings his kitana (no phone pun intended).

Wow. Ninjas really dug deep to get us this scintillating news.

  • BlackberryMAX

    That’s a fuckin A437 on roids.

  • Justicewarrior88

I don’t see why everyone is making such a big deal about this phone.. Nobody said you had to buy it… This phone will be perfect for the older person that dosn’t know how to use a phone very well, or a kid who is getting there first phone, or at someone that can’t afford expensive phones. So chill out..

  • Chad Trask

Haha, I never thought this phone would be getting so many bad reviews. I personally bought it because it was only 19.98 at Wal-Mart, so I figured it would be a great phone for backup. Plus it has Camera and Bluetooth. Currently another bad looking phone (Samsung SCH-u340) is selling for the same exact price at Wal-Mart and doesn’t even include bluetooth. I agree, this phone may not be the most fashionable phone, or have so many features that your drowning in it. Pretty much Samsung got it right this time, if you want a cheap phone that has basic features such as Camera, Web and bluetooth, than this is the phone for you.

  • Kris

so this is my first phone; i got it because it’s a low price with basic but decent features and easy texting, really. i have seen nothing about the phone that is so horrible (at least so far). it’s small and manageable.

and you dont pay 200 for it, just to drop it in a lake later…=)

  • Jj

Phone may not have the good looks but phone with a camera and internet is pretty good.
