AT&T: New iPhone will be hot, son

Exclusive

We can’t tell you where or who, but pretty high up in AT&T’s food chain, the following was reported to be said:

  • New iPhone announcement around mid-June (duh)
  • New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
  • U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
  • Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
  • They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
  • Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
  • The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

For clarification, the above is 100% confirmed.

Thanks, Stephanie!

Why do people always complain about dropped calls. CALL AGAIN!!

Because when you pay money for a service you expect it to work properly the FIRST time. Have you seen the cost of the data plans?

  • Carlos

A keyboard will move the iPhone from super cool toy to BUSINESS TOOL. I think they should offer 2 versions (which would be unlikely).

come to T-Mobile, then we’ll talk

      t-mobile is for low life

I’m at the point to upgrade, have had my current phone for ~4 yrs, and decided I want an iPhone. But I believe I’ll wait a few months longer to see what’s going to happen – if a new iPhone is coming out or not, as well, at what price or package/plan deals that it will be offered.

I would not want the iPhone if a physical keyboard were added, making it thicker/heavier, and agree it would be going backward to add one on after having the virtual. However, I think it would be smart to offer an add on/plug in type of keyboard for those that want one, or wireless, as has been discussed. Even with just a run of the mill regular phone, I know someone that struggles w/the small size of the buttons to dial a # because he has big hands/fingers, so I can understand both sides.

Personally, I hate that any 1 provider has a monopoly on ANY phone upon it’s release. Why should we have to change provider (unless you want to) just to have a particular phone? Or spend tons of hard earned $ for an unlocked version to be able to use it with our own provider? To me, that isn’t the right way to do business, BUT it is what it is.

I live in Houston and have no problems with AT&T’s network personally. Did have LOTS of problems while in San Antonio though, because it has some hilly terrain there and hard to maintain clear signal to the tower.

Returned my 3g i just purchased just to wait and see what happens… worth the wait in my opinion.

why the HELL would apple do a slide out keyboard.. one of the things that makes it so superior to other phones is the touch screen! plus no one wants to deal with a slide out when it gets worn out.

also 4G isnt coming to AT&T because they want to get the technology right and explore the full potential of 3G first.

  • Ben

“Hmmm…let’s see. 1. I own the iTouch. I’ve also used my friends iPhone. The keyboard is CRAP. Yes, the fully extended landscape keyboard I am talking about.
    2. Not doubting my motor skills at all. The keyboard doesn’t register the taps at the speed that I type.
    3. Nope. There goes your highly stereotypical statement that all those you want a slide out keyboard want a stylus.
Wow…I don’t think it is possible for you to be more condescending. For that, I applaud you.”

and to this idiot. yes the keyboard is hard to use but when you OWN an iphone not just use your friends you get used to it and it becomes easy, plus the phone corrects most mistakes anyway so stop your bitchin

also look at last year when the 2.0 software came out, so did the iphone 3G, new software = new iphone

I just wish they would use a glass that didn’t break…that’s not so high tech!!!!

    • George

Hi, just in case, if breaks, mail me the phone and I can fix for 70 dollars, including the shipping back to you. Easy!!!

i just hope that the 4g iphone is more advance than other cell phone

  • drew

ok..how would you like to “call back” someone 18 times in one single conversation and keep getting cut off while talking..o yes..so much simplicity

    I like too thanks

  • EGNOTH

It will suck anyway, compare to upcoming new HTC phones!
But I think usa is going to like the iphone for sure, like they do now ;) ) .. well not me )

  • Steve

The iphone keyboard is far from crap. It is more responsive, faster, and acurate than any physical keyboard I have ever used. I have the BB Curve now and while decent, not nearly as good as the iphone. There is nothing like the iphone hands down. Simple as that!

  • sammi jo

I hope hope hope that iphone comes with a keyboard. yeah it might be a tiny bit heavier but thats not a BIG deal. Its about options. And it would still be cooler, lighter, faster, and wanted by more ppl than any other phone out there. I see these other iphone and iphone user wanna be’s with phones that are have touch screen and a keyboard. its time for apple to once again appeal to the masses with one more thing they want…. touchscreen keyboard AND a physical keyboard. and for all of those who wanna cry and say they like that way it is now, i say to you fine dont upgrade, keep the phone you have, but dont whine about them evolving. the end

    • tommy

      u suck ass

I love I phone they allsome

  • Michael

When will they not require a full data plan? That is what I am waiting for. Just wifi is all i need. On the comp at work, home, why do i need to check my email and surf on my 30 minute ride home. The iphone and others are cool but how much do you pay when add an extra $30 pr month….

The new iphone is getting pushed back to August Release. ATT just told their employees last week that there will be no vacations in beginning of August.
