Sprint’s Q1-Q3 2009 device roadmap leaks

General

When it rains, it pours — and if this newly leaked deck turns out to be the real deal, it’s definitely pouring over at Sprint right now. Phone News claims to have gotten its hands on a roadmap revealing the entirety of Sprint’s upcoming line up for the first three quarters of 2009 and, well, things are looking pretty good. We have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the slides for the time being so we’ll let the deck do the talking. Highlights include affirmation of a Q2 Palm Pre release (shown above with model number P100), the BlackBerry Niagra dropping towards the end of Q3 and a handful of Samsung and HTC handsets that should keep the Windows Mobile crowd happy. Hit the jump for the complete collection of slides.

Thanks, Rusty!

    This is what Sprint needed all along. I wrote to Dan@Sprint.com and stated that Sprint needed to make deals with the handset makers. How can Sprint compete with deep pocket behemoth no: 1 and no:2??? Every week they are announcing a new phone. I see why Verizon purchased Alltel. Remember, guys a phone is only as good as the network it is on. Sprint definately has the network. Now, unleash the dogs and let the consumers go fish!@ Let’s give them our support. We don’t want to lose our cellular telephone company. Remember Wimax is coming in the near future. Better internet for the good U S of A….Just wait!!!!

    Have any of these devices actually hit the market or do they look like they will be even close to speculated release date? Let’s take a look:
    Treo Pro released End of Q2 (Mar 15th, I believe);
    Palm Pre set for Early June (Q3) instead of Q2;
    HTC Rhodium (TP2) isn’t hitting T-Mo until July(Q4) so we know it won’t come to Sprunt until late Q4 at the earliest;
    The Niagra (Tour) is in the same boat going to Verizon July 13th which puts a Sprunt release at least late Q4.
    I am personally annoyed with how long the Pre is taking to release. Not because I want one but because it is Sprint’s sole focus which causes us to have to wait an unreasonable amt of time before any other smart phones are released.

    Oh and I forgot the Willow/Cedar. It is a late Q3 Verizon phone also making it at best a late Q4 Sprunt release…They can’t release the Touch Pro 2(Rhodium) quick enough for me personally…Even though I know better this leak is killin me inside as I watch it become more and more impossible…I wish I was a Pre fan. To me tho it looks like it will be the equivalent of a guy buying a tiny convertible BMW or Pontiac Solstice…it is a chick car with a lot of stuff dudes like…no offense to guys waiting online in their convertible for a Pre of course…

    Last time I looked June is still in the 2nd quarter. You can even go to Sprint’s website and find SEC filings which show Q2 ending June 30th.

    As far as I know the rest of the country…well at least the US Gubmit, uses this fiscal year:

    1st Quarter: October 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008
    2nd Quarter: January 1, 2009 – March 31, 2009
    3rd Quarter: April 1, 2009 – June 30, 2009
    4th Quarter: July 1, 2009 – September 30, 2009

    Of course companies/industries may use variations of that I suppose…although, it seems there should be some standard… thats another issue altogether…

    All that aside, the fact remains that Verizon, T-Mo, and ATT are all getting tons of new handsets first while Sprint squirms further and further up the Palm Pre’s arse ;)

    I dig Sprunt, I’m just frustrated, watching all the phone news sites, at how little is happening with Sprint on the device side of things…

    Just finished chating with a rep frm Sprint and they don’t plan on releasing the htc rhodium this year as the rep said. Can someone let me know what is going on with this phone?

    I just want to point out after the fact that the “android in q4″ bit ended up being the HTC Hero. Who would have guessed? looks like they knew well in advance that they were putting out an android phone, but hadn’t specifically settled on the Hero yet.
