iPod Touch 2G gets “pwned for life”

General

After working long and hard on Apple’s second generation iPod Touch, the iPhone Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team released a little tidbit of information that is sure to please all you 2G Touch owners out there. It looks as though the Dev Team has identified a fatal flaw in the bootrom that allows the device to be pwned for life. Once jailbroken, always jailbroken — regardless of what firmware updates Apple throws your way. The firmware patch that provides this untethered jailbreak has been released to the masses but it has not yet been bundled into QuickPwn or any other Pwnage Tool. Early adopters, hit the read link for all the juicy details. Those of you who aren’t quite so Bold, sit tight for the impending QuickPwn/Pwnage Tool integration.

Ok just to get this straight when I install the jailbreak and even when I download new firmware updates it won’t affect my jailbroken iPod Touch2G at all in the future ?

  • Scrooge Jones

I’m sorry, but can someone explain to me what this means?

  • Rajiv

If you download a new firmware, you’ll still have to go through a process to jailbreak it. However, this news means that it will be possible to be jailbroken for the duration of the life of the 2G Touch – it has a flaw that can’t be fixed without new hardware.

All I know is im excited. I’ve been debating if I would jailbreak my touch because of the whole warrenty thing but since everyones said I can delete the jailbreak then im all for this. Im not bold enough to try this out so I’ll wait a few days until its easier to do.
