Microsoft drops the Y-bomb, again

News

Everyone’s favorite star-crossed lovers — the likes of which haven’t been seen since General Hospital — may be coming back to the bargaining table, yet again, in an effort to unite two of the Internet’s biggest powerhouses. Yep, speculation is in full swing once more as Microsoft COO reveals the company is still interested in talks with the now-rebounding wonder of the Web, Yahoo.

They have a new CEO, and she’s formulating her business plans. We’ve certainly made her aware and the Yahoo! board aware that if they are ever interested in an opportunity to partner with them on search, we’d like to sit down and at least have the conversation. It has to make economic sense to both parties.

No, this isn’t the full-on acquisition Microsoft seemed so interested in pursuing last year. It is, however, a pretty wide open door for Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz and her cohorts to walk through. This isn’t to say Bartz will accept the invitation of course, but it would certainly be interesting to see how things play out without Yang around to continuously heave merciless sliders like Clemens after a fresh shot of HGH. Game on.

    Hopefully it’ll be a Bull market today .

    Declining Microsoft hooking up with struggling Yahoo. Sounds like the Sprint – Palm relationship. Neither entity sees a bright, stable future, alone, “maybe if I hookup with Mr/Ms right I will improve my odds”.

    microsoft doesnt have a bright future.. the smartphone market is not the biggest consumer elec market.. the xbox is killin ps3.. and ms is still in a worldwide monopoly software wise.. when your founder quits to solve the problem of the most efficient way to get rid of extra money, your doin somthin right

    This is the dumbest deal ever and i think it will kill yahoo & Msn live search and open a new window for someone else. The only reason i use Google everyday is cause it’s the only engine that really delivers, yahoo search is not that bad ether but can’t beat google at search, Msn live in the other end only gives you results from what ever microsoft and it’s partners want you to see making the their engine pretty much useless, it’s also a perfect example of why net neutrality is important.

    @celz
    Can you repeat that? That made no sense.
    This is not a dumb deal. Microsoft is now looking to swoop in and get Yahoo (And their 20% of the Internet Search Market) for peanuts. So they won’t use all of Yahoo’s other Portal stuff – But there is a reason why MSFT is interested in what made the US Department of Justice Veto Google from purchasing Yahoo.

    As a new CEO, Carol will definitely have a talk with them to see how Microsoft is going to play this game.

    ^If it’s like the failed trickle-down economic theory you subscribe to, you clearly enjoy golden showers. ;)

    I know i’ll be Yahooing for microsoft if this deal works out. I think it’s a smart move, bathtub billy knows what hes doing lets be real.

    Failed trickle down is better than failed socialism.

    ^False premise (and you know it). :) According to your ‘logic’, freedom is only freedom when solely those with the sharpest elbows and lust for profit (at the expense of all others) are allowed to bring this country to its knees. Today’s economy did not occur due to too much oversight, but due to raping and pillaging unrestrained markets.

    IOW, a price must be paid by all for the hellish actions of the last round of idiots-in-charge. There is no free lunch and no one is excluded from bearing that responsibility for our national solvency.

    Did we ever find out why CFO Blake Jorgensen was fired? If he was fired because Yahoo wasn’t acquired successfully by Microsoft, then that’s an indication of what Ms. Bartz is doing. However, I think her reluctance to immediately seek out MS means she’s still doing stuff internally and believes Yahoo can be revived. I personally suspect she will only seek out MS as a last resort. But we’ll see, she’s only been in office for about a month or two.

    Well. Here’s to assisted suicide. Farewell, Yahoo. Please take Microsoft to hell with you when you leave.
