AT&T and CWA reach tentative agreement

News

It took exactly a month from the day we first scooped the possibility of an AT&T Mobility contractual issues that could have lead to a strike, but it looks like we have some good news to report. Crisis averted — or so it would appear. The CWA site has been posting bargaining reports regularly and yesterday evening the union issued a final report covering a tentative agreement between AT&T Mobility and the CWA union. Woo! As long as nothing crazy happens, it looks like it’s a done deal and workers can go back to doing their jobs without a potential strike looming overhead. Hit the jump for the full report and if you’re an AT&T employee, let us know how you feel about the tentative agreement in the comments section.

Thanks, Ryan and everyone else who sent this in!

    Yes,

joanna1 and all those anti union posters are whatever you want them to be Kraven, noht, and Informed.

However, you still have a castrated union and a ridiculously shitty contract for NetOps!

This contract will not be voted down. I haven’t heard a bad word about it from Sales or Customer Service. If it’s passed it will be just desserts for those pro union workers who don’t want the contract. Some of us didn’t want the union, but we had no choice once the 50% + 1 quota was reached. I hope the contract passes so you know how it feels to be a part of something that you absolutely despise!

As I peruse the CWA website for bargaining updates for the wireline side, all I see is rhetoric and accusations against the company’s proposals. I see NOTHING the outlines the specific items the union is asking for nor anything specific to what they find “wrong” with the company proposals. No counter proposals are detailed.

Same ole, same ole….blah blah blah. If you want respect, starting acting in a manner that garners respect.

  • Unions for office workers are a joke

Union members pay 8% of their medical premiums while non union members pay 36ish percent (still lower than most US workers). If you want more payscale you should pay more of your health care costs, since union members rack up more claims (which adds to the premiums each year) so that they can get their fake doctors notes to go on STD and not work. Most of the benefits you fight for are abused so union slackers can get paid for going on leave.

Well the agreement may look good for the most part but what is really affected is commissions most good sales reps are going to be taking a 10-15000 pay cut in commissions. Also the union wants a vote on a contract they refuse to show in full only the “highlights” are avaiable to be seen. Why wont they disclose the entire contract for voting purposes? What are they hiding?

Here’s what they give you on the website… ——————————
We did not bargain on 3/17/09, as originally planned, because the Company was unprepared to deal with our employment security issues.
    —————————-
hmmmmm…WHAT employment security issues are the union throwing out there ? who knows ??!!! they never have any details…just complaining about nothing…here it is, 2 weeks before the contract is up, and no one knows what they’re talking about!! and the ‘vote yes or no to strike’ will come out tomorrow…I know if I were in the union, I’d say a big fat NO! Why would I try to prepare to strike for proposals I know nothing about! The members are paying the union dues for ‘what’ ? They ask for a YES to strike vote ??? Don’t you want to know what you’re possibly going out on strike for ? The companies offer may not be that bad …WHO KNOWS ??? then they said that some flyer was supposed to be handed out to all offices today…not in mine !

  • att rep

  • joanna1

    ok…update on the cwa website…(hilarious!!)
    ————————–
At today’s full session the Company presented proposals on Article 32 (Messaging Applications Services) and 20 (Absence). As in the past with other functional articles (the blue pages), the Company continued to offer less than what we currently have.

It was the same with Article 20 – they want employees to wait three years to get paid for any sick time, and then it is only after the second day of illness. From 5 years to 8 years service, employees would be paid after the first day of personal illness. Only those with over 8 years of service would get paid for their first day of illness absence. Needless to say, the Union raised a ton of questions about the Company proposals, which are based on the assumption that our members are not really sick when they call in and they could make it in if they just wanted to badly enough (like if they were not getting paid). That is an assumption we are not prepared to agree to
    ————————–

well, well, well…I’m glad to see that the company, AT&T , is finally putting their foot down !! of COURSE these occupational people call in sick whenever and for whatever reasons because they get PAID !!! the company is sick and tired of paying these people while they’re NOT WORKING!!! If half of these people that call in sick all of the time are THAT SICK, then they need to be admitted into a hospital for long term assistance !!! oh, but the UNION won’t dare say that’s not true ! IF you know you’re not going to get paid, you might be alittle more apt to go into work !! .
what a JOKE !! GOOD FOR YOU AT&T !!! KEEP IT UP!! QUIT PAYING THESE LAZY PEOPLE TO DO NOTHING !!

  • joanna1

oh, and by the way….the ‘vote’ results (whether to strike or not) were supposed to be tallied today…hmmmm, where are they ?

  • joanna1

saturday morning and STILL no results on the whether or not to strike vote ! MAn, if I were a paying member, I’d be alittle annoyed right now !! you’re future is being held up in the air by the union !! isn’t that nice of them ? maybe they’re figuring out a way to ‘alter’ the results in their favor ?

  • ResignedCWA1101

How did the meeting go in Paramus last Wednesday night? I heard the union ‘officials’ were the ones being threatened this time around!! That is so hilarious.

You know what I don’t understand? Why you morons thought a scenario other than you losers bent over with your pants down around your ankles and your collective assholes stretched to their limits with the CWA furiously pumping away was even remotely considered.

NOW you’re angry and disappointed? You mean to tell me you couldn’t see this coming? Are you all that stupid? Actually, don’t answer that. I’ve been privy to your emails, and I have to say the grammar, punctuation and spelling is about 7th grade level. Sorry if I’ve offended any seventh graders!

    Mobilize, Mobilize, Mobilize!

In Solidarity my Union Brothers & Sister!

    Heil Hitler!

This contract sucks. Vote it down. Here is why

1.)It does not address the company changing my commission plan every month to fit their pofit agenda. All the contract guarantees is that if I am hitting all of my goals that I actually able to hit my goals then I will make $43,000. As compared to the $70,000 I made last year.

2.)It does not address the increase in health care costs being passed along to us. It does not keep the company from raising these costs every year. These increases in health care costs will total more than the 1-2% base increase.

3.) In speaking with a couple of the bargaining team members…they don’t even know how our compensation plan works. And, they did not even consult sales professionals in other industries for comparable commission plan.

In other industries, if you sell more than $2 million dollars in services…you will live like a king. At AT&T you live in working poverty.

For being the face of AT&t and the only profitable division…You would think that they would respect us and treat us better. Instead we have a 72% turnover ratio, and job satisfaction is the lowest in any industry that is union represented.

With that said…What has CWA really done for you lately. My local is a joke. People get fired all the time and they give in to management, executive levels, etc.

According to the SEC…the executives all got their bonus. But, when it comes to my pay…I get a cut.

T2 Milwaukee is WAY more than answering a phone. We get it done.

    • SAM jOHN

I was checking an old email account looking for SPB shell.. and found this thread. 1st off LOL….

Get it done alright, 1 year later I was let go LOL. I had 1 complaint out of about 10k issues resolved without any issues… actually i was “moved up” to escalations and was coaching and all… what has the CWA done for me… HA!!!!! LOL… Welp at least I don’t work Saturdays (went to nieces birthday party, I missed the last 2 years.)…

  • Michael G Nelson

My health care costs are going up 32%, and my wages are going up 1%….dah for us that are capped out we may see another $5 in pay check!!! Health care will destroy us in 2010 is we have a serious illness. e.g. my wfe had cancer, 2yrs ago, total oop exp was abt $100…..2010 same senerio would be $1400 oop, then 10% of the $175,000 total bill. my cost wld have bn approx $19,000….think abt that bill and trying to pay it off!!! This health care plan is terrible, but due to non thinking members we are STUCK with it!
