Apple getting ready to issue 10.5.7 update for OS X?

Software

As rumors of Snow Leopard continue to swirl, it looks like Apple will be stringing Leopard along for quite a while longer before the next iteration of OS X debuts. According to reports, Apple has seeded a new OS X build to developers and testing is currently under way. The new build, 10.5.7, is said to focus on maintenance, security and synchronization. Apparently the seventh variant of Leopard is a pretty substantial improvement even in its current form — specific areas Apple is targeting with the update include graphics drivers, Time Machine, printing services, screen sharing services, MobileMe syncing, Mail and AddressBook syncing, AirPort services, text services and iCal. Beyond that, about 70 code corrections are said to have already been identified in the build. Needless to say if this rumor turns out to be true, we’re certainly looking forward to seeing an update that will resolve a healthy amount of the issues currently plaguing OS X. Of course we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves; we likely still have a few months before 10.5.7 sees the light of day considering testing has just begun.

I hope that this fix fixes the security fix that broke my VMWare Fusion fix (shared printing needs a fix!) Fix the fix!

I think this is being advertised to sell Macs to people who were waiting for Snow Leopard to come out. Apple will release 10.6 soon after 10.5.7.

That’s right. You MS boys just snooze away. MS has been asleep at the wheel for years. Just dream about Vista part deux coming sometime in 2010. If you need something to really help you dose off, try checking the screen shots of the new Zune… uh, I mean WM 6.5.3.2.1 or whatever version they are re-hashing the year…

zzzzzz … uh huh huh … zzzzzz

Apple vs Microsoft … Jeez so dull.

I don’t know about you, but I have noticed that they both work pretty well on your PC / on your Mac.

Get some linux … it’s free as in you don’t have to pirate it if you can’t afford it, and surprise surprise, it loads sport scores / hotmail / porn / train timetables and then crashes just as well as any other operating system out there.

feel free to criticise my comments – especially if you have tried it.

    zzzzzz … you don’t say ……z.z.z.zz..z.zzzzzzzzzzzz

Criticizing your comments is like you showing up to a gunfight with a water pistol.

Linux is not a mainstream OS. Period. Try running Photoshop on it. (GIMP is not a competitor no matter what some may claim.) But it’s good enough for lots of people. Good for them!

As for the implication here that this means Snow Leopard is somehow being delayed more is simply ludicrous. Snow Leopard is due out the middle of the year. And updates to Leopard have been constant and regular (mostly about three months between, with the last one mid-December).

When rumors hit about Apple seeding an update to developers, that’s actually a signal that things are getting close. So I’m betting 10.5.7 arrives before mid-April. Maybe late March. Depends on how fast the bug fixes arrive.

And what I want in 10.5.7 is the stability I had in 10.5.5 and for most Adobe Apps to stop crashing when I quit them and switch to some other program before they’re completely done quitting. It’s downright annoying. (Yeah, I’m looking at you, Bridge, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, and even you Illustrator.)

alright nerds, break it up. your moms are coming to take you home. and I don’t think zzzzzzzzz was a dig at apple, just the boring post. god, why do you guys get butt hurt about everything? too much emo and crying.

I love how everyone assumes a jab at Apple automatically has something to do with Microsoft. Maybe we just like Dell or Sony or Acer or Toshiba or any of the other PC vendors besides Apple. My lack of an Apple computer has as much to do with their lack of hardware choice as it has to do with their OS.

It also amuses me that a point-point upgrade is newsworthy while somehow the incremental upgrade from Vista to 7 is something to be scoffed at.

Why do nerds identify with their choice of brands so strongly? Do you really buy into all the marketing hype that tells you that their platforms are part of a lifestyle choice? Is this essentially just sports teams for nerds?

For the record, Photoshop works on Linux.
