Helio Ocean 2: The Wait is Over

Retail

At long last, the Helio Ocean 2 is now available online. Many will just chuckle and give this bubbly handset a pass (especially for those who gave up after waiting for so long), but for those few die-hard Helio fans left it’s better late than never. If you have been lusting after this device and were waiting for its official release, head on over to Helio’s website where you can grab one for $149 with a two-year contract. If you click on the little “lawyers note” where the phone is available for online ordering, it also mentions that this is a limited time offer only. We’re not sure exactly what they mean by that, but it’s a pretty good cue to get one soon. Is there anyone out there getting ready to pick one one of these “3G social networking powerhouses”?

Did Virgin buy this company out?

@David Thande Yes, they were acquired by Virgin last Fall.

I had the original Ocean. The thing felt like a brick and the text input was very laggy which made texting hard. Since it still is a brick, and I’m not sure about the text input, i’ll pass.

My iPhone went on eBay when this went official

I had the ocean 1 since fall of 07. I have loved it since i bought it! Obviously, with any phone there are good and bad experiences out there.
Mine happened to be phenomenal! The service is always great here in the Philly Suburbs. The web works really well, the texting, email and plan are great!
They also just went to 7am-7pm for unlimited!
I ordered my ocean two yesterday and its due to arrive monday. Cant wait!

(Please dont tell me how great the iphone is. My roomate has it, its a great device, but its not for me. I hate touchscreens, and the lack of camera and video messaging ability. The plans are also way more expensive. My roomate pays almost a hundred$ per month and gets very few minutes, and very limited messaging and web/email. I pay 72 per month and get unlimited text, email, web, and the 500 min are more than enough! especailly with the new unlimited nights and weekends structure.).

    Seriously, who cares…?

  • questionmark

Well it isnt too terrible looking but it lacks so many features and is too thick for what it offers. A qvga screen and 2mp camera? Helio/virgin mobile needs to realize that we’re not still stuck in 2007. I think ill stick with my touch pro.

This phone may not be up to par with the rest of waht the market has to offer, but it is preeettttyyyy sweet looking. Hope Helio peeps enjoy it! :D

  • Will

Ok, so it looks slicker than the original and its 3G and has night shot mode for camera. But seriously, less internal memory, 2MP camera and 0.2″ more screen real estate. I mean really what was the wait for, 3G? The Virgin Mobile buyout to go through?

I LOVE MY OCEAN…. The funny thing was that i was scared that Helio was not going to put out an updated phone since all the other people were. But the i heard the OCEAN 2 was coming out and i just ordered mine SO WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Cant wait!!!!

    HELIO ROCKS!!!
I’m so glad they didnt copy other bands and come out with some touch screen crap.. like everyone has one,, its kool to be diffrent and this is why i stick to Helio!!!

All Helio phones have been on a 3g network, Will. They were one of the first. I just ordered 2 of these things, and Helio is giving them to me for free for being a member for so long. One for each line. Who cares if the phones are a little dumber than others on the market? The unlimited all-in plans and their customer appreciation is unrivaled in today’s market.

Can it be un-locked and used on boost?

Does anyone know where in NYC I can purchase the red ocean 2?

  • Brian

I’m punching this in on my Ocean 2 right now. I hated this thing at first because of it’s lack of mp3 player controls on the side and flash on the camera, little things. After playing with it a bit I love it. The service is great and at a great price. I really don’t like touch screens and the Oceaan 2 is very user friendly.
